Ralston (''Baile Raghnaill'' in Scottish Gaelic) is a small, suburban settlement in Renfrewshire, Scotland, being part of the greater town of Paisley. The district straddles the A761 (formerly the A737), the main dual-carriageway between Renfrewshire and the City of Glasgow. Ralston High School (RHS) is located in Ralston, a suburb of Omaha, Nebraska, United States. The school, a part of Ralston Public Schools, opened in 1954, as a building for grades 7–12, located at 82nd and Lakeview Drive. It relocated to its current address on 8969 Park Drive in 1969. Prior to 1954, Ralston students went to Omaha South High School as Ralston Schools only had grades K-8. The former high school building was converted to the middle school. Its attendance boundary includes Ralston and sections of Omaha. Ralston High School's colors are red, white and columbian blue. Ralstonism was a social movement in the United States in the 19th century. It claimed about 800,000 followers. Ralstonism was the brainchild of Webster Edgerly (1852–1926). In Edgerly's words, "Ralstonism is the grandest movement that man is capable of establishing". Ralstonism began as the Ralston Health Club, which published Edgerly's writings. It was a hierarchical organization where members were ranked according to the number of "degrees" they had, which ranged from 0 to 100. Members advanced five degrees at a time, and each Ralston book that a member purchased counted as five degrees. Although Edgerly claimed in the 1900 edition of ''The Book of General Membership of the Ralston Health Club'' that the letters for the word RALSTON came from Regime, Activity, Light, Strength, Temperation, Oxygen and Nature, earlier editions of the same book are credited to ''Everett Ralston'', a pseudonym of Edgerly, with the implication that Ralstonism is named after this fictitious person. ... Ralston is a city in Douglas County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 6,494 at the 2020 census. A suburb of Omaha, Ralston is surrounded on three sides by the city of Omaha by 84th, 72nd, and L Streets, and by Sarpy County (Harrison Street) on the south side. History The area of the townsite was established on May 23, 1907 with the sale of 282.7 acres of land owned by Omaha newspaper editor George L Miller to the Ralston Investment Company. A year later the town was platted by future Omaha mayor Roy N. Towl. Ralston Crawford (1906–1978) was an American abstract painter, lithographer, and photographer. Early life He was born on September 5, 1906, in St. Catharines, Ontario, and spent his childhood in Buffalo, New York. He studied art beginning in 1927 in California at the Otis Art Institute. After working at the Walt Disney Studio, he returned to the eastern U.S. for further study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and at the Barnes Foundation, where he was exposed to the art of Picasso and Matisse.
