A Presentation Director is a person who works in the broadcast television industry. They are responsible for the playout of all television programmes, commercials and other material (known as interstitials). History The nature of the job has changed dramatically as technology has progressed. Until recently a presentation director worked in a single presentation suite and was responsible for the manual broadcast of a single television channel, usually using video tape and a vision mixer. With new computer automation and the rise of multi-channel satellite tv networks, a modern presentation director oversees the transmission of dozens of channels from a single suite. Playout
In broadcasting, channel playout is the generation of the source signal of a radio or television channel produced by a broadcaster, coupled with the transmission of this signal for primary distribution or direct-to-audience distribution via any network. Video Tape
Videotape is magnetic tape used for storing video and usually sound in addition. Information stored can be in the form of either an analog or digital signal. Videotape is used in both video tape recorders (VTRs) and, more commonly, videocassette recorders (VCRs) and camcorders. Videotapes have also been used for storing scientific or medical data, such as the data produced by an electrocardiogram. A vision mixer is a device used to select between several different live video sources and, in some cases, compositing live video sources together to create visual effects. In most of the world, both the equipment and its operator are called a vision mixer or video mixer; however, in the United States, the equipment is called a video switcher, production switcher or video production switcher, and its operator is known as a technical director (TD). Live television is a television production broadcast in real-time, as events happen, in the present.
