Post-Internet
Post-Internet is a 21st century art movement involving works that are derived from the Internet or its effects on aesthetics, culture and society. Definition Post-Internet is a loosely-defined term that was coined by artist/curator Marisa Olson in an attempt to describe her practice. It emerged from mid-2000s discussions about Internet art by Gene McHugh (author of a blog titled "Post-Internet"), and Artie Vierkant (artist, and creator of ''Image Object'' sculpture series). The movement itself grew out of Internet Art (or Net Art). According to the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, rather than referring "to a time “after” the internet", the term refers to "an internet state of mind". The term is controversial and the subject of much criticism in the art community. Internet Art

This form of art circumvents the traditional dominance of the physical gallery and museum system. In many cases, the viewer is drawn into some kind of interaction with the work of art. Artists working in this manner are sometimes referred to as net artists. Net artists may use specific social or cultural internet traditions to produce their art outside of the technical structure of the internet. Internet art is often — but not always — interactive, participatory, and multimedia-based. Internet art can be used to spread a message, either political or social, using human interactions. Petra Cortright
Petra Cortright (born 1986) is an American artist working in video, painting, and digital media. Biography Petra Cortright was born in 1986 in Santa Barbara, California. Cortright is the daughter of two artists; her father who died when she was four, Steven Cortright, was a sculptor/printmaker and art professor at UC Santa Barbara, and her mother is a painter. She studied at California College of the Arts in San Francisco (2004) and Parsons The New School for Design in New York (2008). She lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She first came to notice through her self-portrait videos that she uploaded to YouTube. Video works Cortright is well known for her video works presented on YouTube and in gallery environments. Marisa Olson
Marisa Olson is an artist, writer, curator, and former punk singer. In 2004 she auditioned for popular American television show American Idol as an artistic project. Over the course of three months of daily "training exercises," it is revealed that she is critiquing gender norms entrenched by the show, while also using the popularity of her site to speak to readers about using their voice to vote in elections as well as on the show. Her work combines performance, video, painting/drawing, and installation to address the cultural history of technology, experiences of gender, and the relationship between pop culture and politics. Olson was a founding member of the Nasty Nets' "Internet Surfing club", a web-based net art group documenting and remixing their experiences online. Artie Vierkant
Artie Vierkant (born 1986) is an American digital artist based in Brooklyn, New York, known for his "Image Objects" series. The series is based on the 2010 essay "The Image Object Post-Internet", which he wrote while in graduate school. The series began in 2011 and, as of 2019, is still ongoing. Each work in the series is first created by Vierkant as a digital file on a computer, which he then UV prints out and fits onto a three-dimensional sculpture. As Emily Dubovoy noted in a 2012 ''Vice'' article about the series, "...there’s more to it than just the physical objects that one would view in a gallery. The series has another portion to it that lives in, you guessed it, the internet." Katja Novitskova
Katja Novitskova (born 1984 in Tallinn, Estonia) is an Estonian installation artist. She lives and works in Amsterdam and Berlin. Her work focuses on issues of technology, evolutionary processes, digital imagery and corporate aesthetics. Novitskova is interested in investigating how, "media actively redefines the world and culture, and everything" related to art, nature and commerce. Education Novitskova holds degrees in Semiotics and Cultural Studies as well as a specialization in Media Arts from the University of Tartu, Estonia. She also completed a Masters of Science in Digital Media, University of Lübeck, Germany in addition to studying at the Graphic Design department at the Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam. Rachel De Joode
Rachel de Joode (born 1979) is a Berlin-based sculptor, photographer, and installation artist. Early life and education Rachel de Joode studied art at the Academy of Art and Design St. Joost in Breda and time-based arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Work After graduating, de Joode began working with photographs and short films that eventually evolved into sculptures that blurred the line between digital representation and an object. De Joode's work can be seen as a version of ephemeral reality, a surface or texture that can be seen as tactile but not felt because what appear to be sculptural materials are photographs. Parker Ito
Parker Ito (born 1986) is a contemporary artist. He is fourth generation Japanese American, or Yonsei, living and working in Los Angeles. Life Parker Ito was born in 1986 in Long Beach, California, and was raised there. When Ito was younger, he acted and sang on television. Before becoming a professional artist, he aspired to become a professional skateboarder and held a job painting oil derricks in Los Angeles. Art practice Ito creates paintings, sculptures and video works by drawing upon his experience online as both artist and audience. Seapunk
Seapunk is a subculture that originated on Tumblr in 2011. It is associated with an aquatic-themed style of fashion, 3D net art, iconography, and allusions to popular culture of the 1990s. The advent of seapunk also spawned its own electronic music microgenre, featuring elements of Southern hip hop and pop music and R&B music of the 1990s. Seapunk gained limited popularity as it spread through the Internet, although it was said to have developed a Chicago club scene. Claire Elise Boucher (; born March 17, 1988), known professionally as Grimes, is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer.
