Outside (David Bowie Album)
''Outside'' (stylised as ''1. Outside'' and subtitled ''The Nathan Adler Diaries: A Hyper-cycle'') is the 20th studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 25 September 1995 through Virgin Records in the United States and Arista Records, BMG and RCA Records in other territories. Reuniting Bowie with musician Brian Eno following the late 1970s Berlin Trilogy, the two were inspired by concepts "outside" the mainstream, such as various outsider and performance artists. Recorded throughout 1994, the experimental sessions saw Bowie conceive a world where "art crimes", such as murder, pervade society. The resulting ''Leon'' project initially faced resistance from labels due to its uncommercial nature. The project's bootlegging led to additional sessions in 1995 to revise the concept and record more commercial material, inspired by a diary Bowie wrote for '' Q'' magazine. Influenced by the television series ''Twin Peaks'', the nonlinear narrative of ''Outside' ...

Outside (CFCF Album)
''Outside'' is the second studio album of Canadian electronic musician Michael Silver, known by his stage name as CFCF. Silver began work on a second CFCF LP shortly after the release of his debut album ''Continent'' (2009) in order to increase his reputation of being more than just a "house DJ." The record has feelings of being tired and hoping to reach something, which was influenced by Silver's experience in traveling to and from places such as New York, Toronto, and Montreal. He would often look at other landscapes while he was bored during travels and became "immersed" in the fantasies caused by looking at them. ''Outside'' uses several elements of 1980s music by acts such as Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. ''Outside'' was the first album where Silver's vocals served as the foreground of some tracks, and features background vocal contributions from artists such as Stefanie Franciotti, Active Child, and Johan Tuvesson. The album's atmosphere was inspired by Bonnie 'Prince' Bill ...

Outsides (EP)
''Outsides'' is the fifth EP by John Frusciante, originally scheduled to be released on August 14, 2013, in Japan, and on August 27, 2013, internationally on Record Collection but due to an error in the distribution process, some pre-ordered CDs were shipped to customers during late July 2013. As a result, the international record release date has been brought forward to the 6th August 2013. The EP was released in multiple formats, including CD, vinyl, 32-bit digital formats and cassette. The music serves as a conceptual bridge between '' PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone'' and ''Enclosure''. Background and recording Frusciante commented on the release: :''Outsides'' consists of a 10-minute guitar solo and 2 abstract “out” pieces of music. Here I use the word out in the same sense as the term was used in free jazz. It’s a modern approach to the concepts of harmony found in some late 50s/early 60s free jazz and some 20th century classical. I don’t employ any aspects of rock or ...

Outside (Staind Song)
"Outside" is a song by the American rock band Staind. It was released in May 2001 as the second single from their second album ''Break the Cycle''. Background "Outside" was originally performed live during the 1999 Family Values Tour in Biloxi, Mississippi, with Aaron Lewis (vocals and guitar) on the stage by himself and Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst providing backing vocals. Lewis was asked to perform a song solo and he decided at the last moment to play a song he had been working on and practicing with an acoustic side project known as J-CAT since the early days of Staind. He finished the lyrics to "Outside" on the spot while singing the song live. "It's really an accidental phenomenon," Lewis explains. "I've been playing it for quite some time. In the early days of the band, any money we made went back into the band, so two or three times a week I played acoustically to make money to live off. 'Outside' was one of the songs I played, but it wasn't really finished, so I made up di ...

Outside (jazz)
In jazz improvisation, outside playing describes an approach where one plays over a scale, mode or chord that is harmonically distant from the given chord. There are several common techniques to playing outside, that include side-stepping or side-slipping, superimposition of Coltrane changes, and polytonality. Side-slipping The term side-slipping or side-stepping has been used to describe several similar yet distinct methods of playing outside. In one version, one plays only the five "'wrong'" non- scale notes for the given chord and none of the seven scale or three to four chord tones, given that there are twelve notes in the equal tempered scale and heptatonic scales are generally used. Another technique described as sideslipping is the addition of distant ii–V relationships, such as a half-step above the original ii–V. This increases chromatic tension as it first moves away and then towards the tonic. Lastly, side-slipping can be described as playing in a scale a half ...
