Ottavio Cinquanta
Ottavio Cinquanta (15 August 1938 – 18 July 2022) was the President of the International Skating Union and a member of the International Olympic Committee. He held the ISU position from 1994 to 2016 and the IOC position since 1996. In 2000 he was elected member of the IOC Executive Committee, a position that he held until 2008. Prior to becoming ISU President he was ISU Vice President and before that the Chair of its Technical Committee for Short Track Speed Skating. Biography Cinquanta grew up in Milan, Italy, where he practiced ice hockey, athletics and speed skating. Cinquanta attended university and he was mainly active in business administration. At the time of his election to the ISU Presidency, at the age of 56, he retired from his position as a manager of an international chemical company. Olaf Poulsen (27 July 1920 – 27 September 2008) was a Norwegian sports official, best known for serving as the president of the International Skating Union from 1980 to 1994. 2002 Olympic Winter Games Figure Skating Scandal
At the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, it was alleged that the pairs' figure skating competition had been fixed, in which a French judge had compromised scores. The Russian team was awarded the gold. After limited investigation of the issues, a second award ceremony was held, and two pairs teams received gold medals: Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze of Russia, and also the second-ranked team, silver medalists Jamie Salé and David Pelletier of Canada. As a result of this scandal, in 2002 the ISU suspended two officials for three years: one of the judges and the head of the French skating federation. In addition, a new ISU Judging System was introduced in 2004. It replaced the 6.0 system. Initially it included a provision that the judges' scores would be anonymous. Kurt Browning, (born June 18, 1966) is a Canadian figure skater, choreographer and commentator. He is the first skater to land a ratified quadruple jump in competition. He is a four-time World Champion and Canadian national champion. Career Browning was both Canadian figure skating champion and World Champion four times. He represented Canada in three Winter Olympics, 1988 (finishing 8th overall), 1992 (6th) and 1994 (5th), and earned the privilege of carrying the Canadian flag during the opening ceremonies of the 1994 games in Lillehammer, Norway. Browning's other achievements include three Canadian Professional Championships and three World Professional Championships.
