Oniwaban
The or was a group of government-employed undercover agents (''onmitsu''), established by the 8th Tokugawa ''shÅgun'', Tokugawa Yoshimune (1684â1751). They were under the direct command of the shÅgun and were in charge of undercover intelligence operations. In actuality, their work consisted more often of reporting any news about the city of Edo to the shÅgun or remaining incognito to inspect and report on the states of affairs in the countryside. Their activities were comparable to those of the inspectors and general inspectors of the shogunate albeit under the direct orders from the shÅgun. Most historical plays and novels of the era depicted them as spies or ninjas, a tradition that continues to this time in popular culture. AbarenbÅ ShÅgun
(AbarenbÅ ShÅgun) was a Japanese television program on the TV Asahi network. Set in the eighteenth century, it showed fictitious events in the life of Yoshimune, the eighth Tokugawa ''shÅgun''. The program started in 1978 under the title ''Yoshimune Hyobanki: Abarenbo Shogun'' (''Chronicle in Praise of Yoshimune: The Unfettered Shogun'') who went after rogue councillors and ''daimyÅ'' who were abusing their power. After a few seasons, they shortened the first two words and the show ran for two decades under the shorter title until the series ended in 2003; a two-hour special aired in 2004. The earliest scripts occasionally wove stories around historic events such as the establishment of firefighting companies of commoners in Edo, but eventually the series adopted a routine of strictly fiction. is a television ''jidaigeki'' series. It ran in prime time on the TV Asahi network in Japan. The first episode aired on January 27, 1996, and the 19th and final installment was broadcast on June 29 of that year. The series starred Kunihiko Mitamura with Yoko Minamino, YÅ«ji Kishimoto, and Bengal as the team of secret agents working under the leadership of KÅtarÅ Satomi. Shinomori Aoshi
, known in Western order as Aoshi Shinomori in the English version of the anime, is a fictional character in the ''Rurouni Kenshin'' manga series created by Nobuhiro Watsuki. He is the genius young of the OniwabanshÅ« for Edo Castle. After the Meiji Restoration Shinomori alone was offered rankings in the military, however, instead of abandoning his comrades, he decided to work with them for Takeda KanryÅ«. This decision leads to the death of his comrades and his defeat by Himura Kenshin, which results in driving him mad. , in the Media Blasters dub, is a character from the fictional ''Rurouni Kenshin'' universe created by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Misao is a 16-year-old girl and the youngest member of the ninja group called Oniwabanshū. She leaves her home to find her missing leader Shinomori Aoshi but instead encounters Himura Kenshin during his journey to Kyoto alone. Rurouni Kenshin

Yoshimune (anime)
is a Japanese anime series produced by AIC Spirits, Ginga-ya, and Gonzo and directed by Hiroaki Sato. It is based on a pachinko game by Daito Giken. Synopsis The story is set in a parallel world which combines elements of the Edo period such as samurai and the modern, such as disco halls and motorbikes. The kingdom is governed by Yoshimune, the eponymous title character in the series. All the characters are drawn super deformed and many of them have self-descriptive names.
