OfRo
Rohith Abraham (born 19 July 1987), known professionally as ofRo, is an Indian record producer and songwriter who has worked with Asal Kolaar, Madan Gowri, Sandy, Arivu, Tenma, ADK, Roshan Jamrock, Psychomantra, and Ben Human, among others. He is the co-founder of Madras Medai, a music festival and conference focusing on the growth of independent music in South India. He is the co-founder of Atti Culture. Early years Rohith was born in Chennai, India, and grew up there. He started playing piano at the age of 7 and began learning on electronic instruments soon after. He began taking music seriously in 2005 with his band Nerverek. After he graduated from Loyola College, he moved to Byron Bay, Australia, to further hone his music production skills. Therukural
''Therukural'' is a studio album composed by Arivu and OfRo, both members of The Casteless Collective. The band also produced the album, which highlights various political themes and was touted to be a hip-hop album with a social message. The album was released on 26 June 2019, and received positive response upon release. Development Background Arivu, a member of the Casteless Collective earlier performed several songs for the band, announced his collaboration with Rohit Abraham, known as OfRo to produce their first independent album titled ''Therukural''. It was his first attempt in producing and crooning rap numbers with this album. Rohit had been part of several bands and had worked with top music directors in the Tamil film industry. Arivu
Arivarasu Kalainesan, more commonly known as Arivu, is an Indian rapper, lyricist, and playback singer who works in Tamil language films. He is best known for the song "Vaathi Raid" from ''Master'' (2021) and for his single "Enjoy Enjaami". Early life Arivu was brought up in Arakkonam, a town 60 kilometres west of Chennai. He was exposed to many folk songs as he grew up in family without TV and radio, as his parents wanted him to concentrate on school. He started to write poems about caste and poverty in his high school days and became more politically conscious during his college. Career While pursuing his MBA in college, Arivu met Pa. Tenma (musician)
Tiburtius Vinodh Rubin, better known professionally as Tenma, is an Indian music producer, singer, composer, bass guitarist, and festival director. He is most well recognized as the co-founder (with Pa. Ranjith) and leader of the indie band The Casteless Collective and the now-defunct band Kurangan. In 2019, he debuted as a music director for the Tamil film ''Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu''. He is the co-founder of Madras Medai, a music festival and conference focusing on the growth of independent music in South India. He is also the founder of the Madras Indie Collective. Chinnaponnu
Chinnaponnu (also credited as Chinna Ponnu or Chinnaponnu Kumar) is a folk and playback singer from the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Early life Chinnaponnu was born in Suranam, a small village in Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu, India. She started performing in temple festivals and churches when she was 13 years old. Soon afterwards, she began singing professionally in the troupe of fellow folk artist Kottaisamy, whom she credits as a mentor. Later her voice brought the attention of K.A. The Casteless Collective
The Casteless Collective is an Indian indie band based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The band was formed in 2017, with support from the Neelam Panpaatu Maiyam started by filmmaker Pa. Ranjith and filmmaker and film composer Tenma, founder of the label Madras Records. Early years and band formation Tenma, the leader and the music producer of the band was trying to put together a group of indie musicians and artists, the Madras Indie Collective, in 2017 when he received a call from Neelam's Pa. Ranjith, enquiring if he could train Gaana singers and musicians from the Gaana genre. They put out calls for an audition and received about 150 applications. Since the band was embarking on a socio-political journey, the auditions were looking to understand the motivations of the performers, as much as their musical strengths.
