Non-zero Dispersion-shifted Fiber
Non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZDSF), specified in ITU-T G.655, is a type of single-mode optical fiber which was designed to overcome the problems of dispersion-shifted fiber. NZDSF is available in two primary flavours: NZD+ and NZD-, which differ in their zero-dispersion wavelengths. These are typically around 1510 nm and 1580 nm, respectively. Because the zero-dispersion point of NZDSF is outside of the normal communications window, four-wave mixing Four-wave mixing (FWM) is an intermodulation phenomenon in nonlinear optics, whereby interactions between two or three wavelengths produce two or one new wavelengths. It is similar to the third-order intercept point in electrical systems. Four-wave ... and other non-linear effects are minimized. Other types of NZDSF include which has a reduced slope in its change of dispersion and large core NZDSF which further reduces residual non-linear distortion under high launch power. Some long-haul fiber paths will alternate NZ ...

Non Zero One
non zero one (formed 2009) are an artist collective formed of Sarah Butcher, Iván González, Cat Harrison, John Hunter, Fran Miller and Alex Turner. They also work with other artists in association. The collective formed in early 2009, after meeting one another via their undergraduate studies at Royal Holloway, University of London. The collective make interactive theatre that sometimes uses game mechanics and digital technology (such as headphones) in order to put the audience at the centre of the work. They often explore the connections between people - whether it be what it is that makes people a 'team', in ''The Time Out'', to the instructions over headphones in ''Would like to meet'', which attempts to ask 'Can you miss someone you've never met?'" or the "Ghosts" of actors past and present in ''this Is where we got to when you came in''. Shows ''Would Like to Meet'' - 2009–2010. Debuted as part of the company's undergraduate degree programme at Royal Holloway, University of ...

Non-zero-sum Game
Zero-sum game is a mathematical representation in game theory and economic theory of a situation which involves two sides, where the result is an advantage for one side and an equivalent loss for the other. In other words, player one's gain is equivalent to player two's loss, therefore the net improvement in benefit of the game is zero. If the total gains of the participants are added up, and the total losses are subtracted, they will sum to zero. Thus, cutting a cake, where taking a more significant piece reduces the amount of cake available for others as much as it increases the amount available for that taker, is a zero-sum game if all participants value each unit of cake equally. Other examples of zero-sum games in daily life include games like poker, chess, and bridge where one person gains and another person loses, which results in a zero-net benefit for every player. In the markets and financial instruments, futures contracts and options are zero-sum games as well. In c ...

Algebraic Structure
In mathematics, an algebraic structure consists of a nonempty set ''A'' (called the underlying set, carrier set or domain), a collection of operations on ''A'' (typically binary operations such as addition and multiplication), and a finite set of identities, known as axioms, that these operations must satisfy. An algebraic structure may be based on other algebraic structures with operations and axioms involving several structures. For instance, a vector space involves a second structure called a field, and an operation called ''scalar multiplication'' between elements of the field (called '' scalars''), and elements of the vector space (called '' vectors''). Abstract algebra is the name that is commonly given to the study of algebraic structures. The general theory of algebraic structures has been formalized in universal algebra. Category theory is another formalization that includes also other mathematical structures and functions between structures of the same type (homomor ...

Zero Element
In mathematics, a zero element is one of several generalizations of the number zero to other algebraic structures. These alternate meanings may or may not reduce to the same thing, depending on the context. Additive identities An additive identity is the identity element in an additive group. It corresponds to the element 0 such that for all x in the group, . Some examples of additive identity include: * The zero vector under vector addition: the vector of length 0 and whose components are all 0. Often denoted as \mathbf or \vec. * The zero function or zero map defined by , under pointwise addition * The empty set under set union * An empty sum or empty coproduct * An initial object in a category (an empty coproduct, and so an identity under coproducts) Absorbing elements An absorbing element in a multiplicative semigroup or semiring generalises the property . Examples include: *The empty set, which is an absorbing element under Cartesian product of sets, since *The zero functi ...

The Logic Of Human Destiny
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things that are already or about to be mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with nouns of any gender. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of the archaic pro ...

Nonzero Records
Nonzero Records is an independent record label based in Sydney, Australia, dedicated to supporting the Sydney independent music scene and select overseas artists. To date the label has produced over 50 releases for twenty artists. Nonzero was founded by long-time music fan, Nick Carr, who, inspired by labels such as Citadel, started his own label to provide Bluebottle Kiss with a label to release the band's fourth studio album, '' Revenge Is Slow'', in March 2002. The album won the band new respect and a much larger national and international audience, the album was their first overseas release in the United States on the In Music We Trust label and in the United Kingdom on Laughing Outaw Records. The album spawned three singles, "Gangsterland", "Hasten The Blo" and "Ounce Of Your Cruelty", with the latter also gaining release in the UK on the Sugarshack label. Nonzero subsequently released the debut albums by The Devoted Few, ''Sleepless'' (16 September 2002) and Peabody's al ...

0 (number)
0 (zero) is a number representing an empty quantity. In place-value notation such as the Hindu–Arabic numeral system, 0 also serves as a placeholder numerical digit, which works by multiplying digits to the left of 0 by the radix, usually by 10. As a number, 0 fulfills a central role in mathematics as the additive identity of the integers, real numbers, and other algebraic structures. Common names for the number 0 in English are ''zero'', ''nought'', ''naught'' (), ''nil''. In contexts where at least one adjacent digit distinguishes it from the letter O, the number is sometimes pronounced as ''oh'' or ''o'' (). Informal or slang terms for 0 include ''zilch'' and ''zip''. Historically, ''ought'', ''aught'' (), and ''cipher'', have also been used. Etymology The word ''zero'' came into the English language via French from the Italian , a contraction of the Venetian form of Italian via ''ṣafira'' or ''ṣifr''. In pre-Islamic time the word (Arabic ) had the meanin ...
