A Non-constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) is a member of an opposition list of political parties in Singapore, political party in Singapore who, according to the Constitution of Singapore, Constitution and Parliamentary Elections Act, is declared to have been elected a Parliament of Singapore, Member of Parliament (MP) without constituency representation, despite having lost in a parliamentary elections in Singapore, general election, by virtue of having been one of the best-performing losers. When less than 12 opposition MPs have been elected, the number of NCMPs is the difference to total 12. NCMPs enjoy all of the privileges of ordinary Members of Parliament. Lee Siew-Choh
Lee Siew Choh (; 1 November 1917 – 18 July 2002) was a Singaporean politician and physician. He was the Member of Parliament for Queenstown, Singapore, Queenstown from 1959 to 1963 and served as the Non-constituency Member of Parliament, NCMP from September 1988 to August 1991. Initially a member of the People's Action Party (PAP), he became a leader of the breakaway faction of Barisan Sosialis (BS) in 1961. After the Barisan Sosialis, BS merged with the Workers' Party of Singapore, Workers' Party (WP) in 1988, Lee stood as a Workers' Party (Singapore), WP candidate in the 1988 Singaporean general election, 1988 election and became Singapore's first Non-constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) due to his best performance among the opposition candidates. Dennis Tan
Dennis Tan Lip Fong ( zh, s=陈立峰, p=Chén Lìfēng; born 31 August 1970) is a Singaporean politician and lawyer. A member of the opposition Workers' Party (WP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Hougang SMC since 2020. Education Tan was educated at Nanyang Primary School, Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College before he went on to read law at the University of Nottingham. After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in 1994, Tan attended the Bar Professional Training Course in London and became a barrister-at-law at the Middle Temple. Yee Jenn Jong (; born 24 March 1965) is a Singaporean politician and a member of the Workers' Party. He is a Non-constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) of the 12th Parliament of Singapore from 2011 to 2015. Chiam See Tong
Chiam See Tong (; born 12 March 1935) is a Singaporean retired politician and lawyer who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Potong Pasir SMC between 1984 and 2011. He was one of the two opposition MPs in Parliament. Lawyer by profession, Chiam contested in the 1976 general election and 1979 by-elections as an independent candidate in Cairnhill SMC and Potong Pasir SMC but lost both. He founded the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) in 1980 and became its secretary-general, and contested in the 1980 general election but was defeated again. Lina Loh Woon Lee ( zh, s=罗文丽, p=Luó Wénlì; born 1949), also known as Lina Chiam, is a Singaporean former politician. She was previously a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament between 2011 and 2015 and was the committee member of Singapore People's Party since 2019. 2011 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 7 May 2011. President S. R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 19 April 2011 on the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Voting is mandatory in Singapore and is based on the first-past-the-post system. Elections are conducted by the Elections Department, which is under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Office. Nomination day was held on 27 April 2011, and for the second election in a row, the PAP did not return to government on nomination day, but it did return to government on polling day.
