Net (mathematics)
In mathematics, more specifically in general topology and related branches, a net or Moore–Smith sequence is a generalization of the notion of a sequence. In essence, a sequence is a function whose domain is the natural numbers. The codomain of this function is usually some topological space. The motivation for generalizing the notion of a sequence is that, in the context of topology, sequences do not fully encode all information about functions between topological spaces. In particular, the following two conditions are, in general, not equivalent for a map f between topological spaces X and Y: #The map f is continuous in the topological sense; #Given any point x in X, and any sequence in X converging to x, the composition of f with this sequence converges to f(x) (continuous in the sequential sense). While it is necessarily true that condition 1 implies condition 2 (The truth of the condition 1 ensures the truth of the conditions 2.), the reverse implication is not nece ...

Net Income
In business and accounting, net income (also total comprehensive income, net earnings, net profit, bottom line, sales profit, or credit sales) is an entity's income minus cost of goods sold, expenses, depreciation and amortization, interest, and taxes for an accounting period. It is computed as the residual of all revenues and gains less all expenses and losses for the period,Stickney, et al. (2009) Financial Accounting: An Introduction to Concepts, Methods, and Uses. Cengage Learning and has also been defined as the net increase in shareholders' equity that results from a company's operations.Needles, et al. (2010) Financial Accounting. Cengage Learning. It is different from gross income, which only deducts the cost of goods sold from revenue. For households and individuals, net income refers to the (gross) income minus taxes and other deductions (e.g. mandatory pension contributions). Definition Net income can be distributed among holders of common stock as a dividend or ...

ε-net (computational Geometry)
An ''ε''-net (pronounced epsilon-net) in computational geometry is the approximation of a general set by a collection of simpler subsets. In probability theory it is the approximation of one probability distribution by another. Background Let ''X'' be a set and R be a set of subsets of ''X''; such a pair is called a ''range space'' or hypergraph, and the elements of ''R'' are called ''ranges'' or ''hyperedges''. An ε-net of a subset ''P'' of ''X'' is a subset ''N'' of ''P'' such that any range ''r'' âˆˆ R with , ''r'' âˆ© ''P'',  â‰¥ ''ε'', ''P'', intersects ''N''. In other words, any range that intersects at least a proportion ε of the elements of ''P'' must also intersect the ''ε''-net ''N''. For example, suppose ''X'' is the set of points in the two-dimensional plane, ''R'' is the set of closed filled rectangles (products of closed intervals), and ''P'' is the unit square , 1nbsp;×  , 1 Then the set N consist ...

Net Sports
Net and wall games are court games where either a net separates the opponents or a wall serves to reflect the ball to the opponent. The object of these games is to hit the ball or bird over the net or against the wall back to the opponent. Play typically begins with one side ''serving'' the ball/bird by initially tossing or releasing it and then hitting it over the net. This then starts a ''rally'', in which the sides alternate hitting the ball/bird over the net. Players then score points whenever the opponent fails to return the ball/bird back over the net. The criteria on what is considered a valid return varies between each sport (such as the number of times the ball may be touched or bounced on a player's side before it must go back over the net). Net and wall games usually include: * racquet sports such as tennis, badminton, pickleball, table tennis, squash, racquetball. * volleyball, footvolley, Jokgu, headis, roundnet or sepak takraw, where players must hit the ball wit ...

Nett
Nett also written as Net, is one of the administrative divisions of Pohnpei State, Federated States of Micronesia. Description Nett is one of the six municipalities located in the main island of Pohnpei. It corresponds to the north-central sector of the island. The population was 6,639 as of 2010. Nett municipality formerly included Kolonia, now a separate administrative division. Nett has been historically subdivided into 23 sections, districts, or villages (''kousapw''): Parempei, Lenger, Leprohi, Sekeren, Weipowe, Diadi, Tomwara, Dolokei, Lewetik, Takaieu, Paliais, Seinwar, Meitik, Paremkep, Nansokasok (Nan Sokasok), Eirike (Eirke), Nanipil, Kahmar, Doaroapop, Pohndien, Dolakapw, Mesenieng, and Lehdau. This includes ''Mesenieng'', which is the traditional name of the now separate municipality Kolonia, which is still claimed by Nett municipality as one of its ''kousapw''. The ''kousapw'' are or were further subdivided into peliensapw (farmsteads). Education Pohnpei State ...

Handicap (golf)
A golf handicap is a numerical measure of a golfer's potential that is used to enable players of varying abilities to compete against one another. Better players are those with the lowest handicaps. Historically, rules relating to handicaps have varied from country to country with many different systems in force around the world. Because of incompatibilities and difficulties in translating between systems, the sport's governing bodies, the USGA and The R&A, working with the various existing handicapping authorities, devised a new World Handicap System (WHS) which began to be introduced globally in 2020. History The earliest record of golf handicapping is thought to be from the late 17th century, in a diary kept by Thomas Kincaid, who was a student in Edinburgh, Scotland, although the word ''handicap'' would not come into use in golf until the late 19th century. The number of strokes to be given and the holes on which they would be in effect was negotiated between competing golf ...

Internet
The Internet (or internet) is the global system of interconnected computer networks that uses the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to communicate between networks and devices. It is a '' network of networks'' that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and file sharing. The origins of the Internet date back to the development of packet switching and research commissioned by the United States Department of Defense in the 1960s to enable time-sharing of computers. The primary precursor network, the ARPANET, initially served as a backbone for interconnection of regional academic and military networks in the 1970s to enable resource shari ...

Netlist
In electronic design, a netlist is a description of the connectivity of an electronic circuit. In its simplest form, a netlist consists of a list of the electronic components in a circuit and a list of the nodes they are connected to. A network (net) is a collection of two or more interconnected components. The structure, complexity and representation of netlists can vary considerably, but the fundamental purpose of every netlist is to convey connectivity information. Netlists usually provide nothing more than instances, nodes, and perhaps some attributes of the components involved. If they express much more than this, they are usually considered to be a hardware description language such as Verilog or VHDL, or one of several languages specifically designed for input to simulators or hardware compilers (such as SPICE analog simulation netlists). Types of netlists Netlists can be: * Physical (based upon physical connections) or logical (based upon logical connections) ** For ex ...

Net (economics)
A net (sometimes written nett) value is the resultant amount after accounting for the sum or difference of two or more variables. In economics, it is frequently used to imply the remaining value after accounting for a specific, commonly understood deduction. In these cases it is contrasted with the term gross, which refers to the pre-deduction value. For example, net income is the total income of a company after deducting its expenses—commonly known as profit—or the total income of an individual after deducting their income tax. Profit may be broken down further into pre-taxed or gross profit and profit after taxes or net profit. Similarly, an individual's net worth is the difference between their assets (what they own) and their liabilities (what they owe to others). Similarly, net investment in physical capital such as machinery equals gross (total) investment minus the dollar amount of replacement investment that offsets depreciation of pre-existing machinery, thus ...

Linear System Of Divisors
In algebraic geometry, a linear system of divisors is an algebraic generalization of the geometric notion of a family of curves; the dimension of the linear system corresponds to the number of parameters of the family. These arose first in the form of a ''linear system'' of algebraic curves in the projective plane. It assumed a more general form, through gradual generalisation, so that one could speak of linear equivalence of divisors ''D'' on a general scheme or even a ringed space (''X'', ''O''''X''). Linear system of dimension 1, 2, or 3 are called a pencil, a net, or a web, respectively. A map determined by a linear system is sometimes called the Kodaira map. Definition Given the fundamental idea of a rational function on a general variety X, or in other words of a function f in the function field of X, f \in k(X), divisors D,E \in \text(X) are linearly equivalent divisors if :D = E + (f)\ where (f) denotes the divisor of zeroes and poles of the function f. Note that i ...

Net (textile)
Net or netting is any textile in which the yarns are fused, looped or knotted at their intersections, resulting in a fabric with open spaces between the yarns. Net has many uses, and comes in different varieties. Depending on the type of yarn or filament that is used to make up the textile, its characteristics can vary from durable to not durable. Uses People use net for many different occupations. Netting is one of the key components to fishing in mass quantities. This textile is used because of its sturdy yet flexible origin, which can carry weight yet, still be lightweight and compactable. Fisherman use netting when trawling, because it is sturdy enough to carry large amounts of weight as fish are trapped, pulled, then lifted out of water. Oftentimes, the filaments that make up the yarn are coated with wax or plastic. This coating adds a waterproof component to the textile that provides even more reliability. Net has been used in fashion for centuries. Tulle is a form of net ...
