Mayor Of Tirana
The Mayor of Tirana ( sq, Kryetari i Bashkisë së Tiranës) is the head of the General Assembly in Tirana, Albania. The mayor including with his cabinet, exercises the executive power of the city and is directly elected together with the ''City Council'', directly for 4-year term. The city council ( sq, Këshilli Bashkiak) is made up of 61 members. It exercises the legislative power of Tirana. The City Hall of Tirana is the seat of the council and located at the Skanderbeg Square. The current officeholder is Erion Veliaj of the Socialist Party who was elected for his first four-year-term on 21 July 2015. History 1913–1990 After the General Assembly of Tirana in 1913, Zyber Hallulli elected as the first mayor of Tirana. He served from 1913 to 1914 as the mayor. Llambi Gegprifti
Llambi Gegprifti (born 14 February 1942, in Pogradec) is a former Albanian politician and mayor of Tirana (precisely Chairman of the Executive Committee of the People's Council of Tirana District) from 1986 through 1987 and 1989 through 1990. He was candidate-member of the Politburo of the Party of Labour of Albania for terms of 1971, 1976, 1981, and 1986 (the last one). In July 1974, Gegprifti was elected Deputy Minister of Defence. Together with Hekuran Isai , Pali Miska, and Qirjako Mihali he was one of the new generation of leaders within the Party of Labour of Albania. In 1978 he was elected member (representing Pogradec District) and first deputy of the People's Assembly (Alb: ''Kuvendi Popullor''). Lulzim Basha (; born 12 June 1974) is an Albanian politician who served as the chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania, the main opposition party, from 2013 to March 21, 2022 when he stepped down from the leadership of the party. Basha was elected as chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania in September 2013 following the Democratic Party's electoral loss which sent them in the opposition. In 2021, he became the first opposition leader in Albanian history to lose two general elections in a row, although Basha claimed the losses came as a result of significant electoral interference by the ruling Socialist Party. Edi Rama (born Edvin Kristaq Rama, 4 July 1964) is an Albanian politician, painter, writer, former university lecturer, publicist and former basketball player, who has served as the 33rd and current Prime Minister of Albania since 2013 and chairman of the Socialist Party of Albania since 2005. Prior to his tenure as Prime Minister, Rama held a number of positions. He was appointed Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in 1998, an office he held until 2000. Fall Of Communism In Albania
The fall of Communism in Albania, the last such event in Europe outside the Soviet Union, started in December 1990 with student demonstrations in the capital, Tirana, although protests started in January that year in other cities like Shkodra and Kavaja. The Central Committee of the communist Party of Labour of Albania allowed political pluralism on 11 December and the largest opposition party, the Democratic Party, was founded the next day. March 1991 elections left the Party of Labour in power, but a general strike and urban opposition led to the formation of a "stability government" that included non-communists. Erion Veliaj (born December 17, 1979) is an Albanian, politician, who is currently serving as the Mayor of Tirana. Stemming from a civil society activism organization as the leader of MJAFT!, Veliaj joined the ranks of the Socialist Party of Albania in 2011, when he was appointed Secretary for Youth and Immigration.
