City Manager
A city manager is an official appointed as the administrative manager of a city, in a "Mayor–council government" council–manager form of city government. Local officials serving in this position are sometimes referred to as the chief executive officer (CEO) or chief administrative officer (CAO) in some municipalities. Franz Oppenhoff
Franz Oppenhoff (18 August 1902 – 25 March 1945) was a German lawyer who was appointed mayor of the city of Aachen after its capture by Allied forces in World War II. He was subsequently assassinated on the order of Heinrich Himmler. Biography Born in 1902, Franz Oppenhoff received a law degree from Cologne University, and worked as a lawyer until World War II. Oppenhoff was an expert on Nazi law, had been legal representative for the Bishop of Aachen, Johannes Joseph van der Velden, and had defended some cases for Jewish companies. Knowing that the Gestapo was interested in him, he had taken refuge in Eupen, across the border in Belgium, in September 1944, taking his wife and three daughters with him. Sibylle Keupen (* 1963 in Mayen) is a German politician (non-party, close to the Green Party) and a qualified pedagogue. She has been the Lord Mayor of Aachen since November 1, 2020. Education and personal life During 1982-83 she studied the Pedagogy and Social sciences at the University of Bonn and in 1987 she graduated from University of Trier, specialization Pedagogy and Social sciences. Sibylle Keupen is married, she has two adult sons and lives in Herzogenrath, district of Aachen. Work Since her youth, she has been active for many years as a volunteer in a Catholic youth association with a focus on political education and women's work. Jürgen Linden (born January 13, 1947) is a German politician (Social Democratic Party of Germany) and was Lord Mayor of Aachen from 1989 to 2009. Life Linden is the speaker of the board of directors of the Charlemagne Prize of the city of Aachen which is awarded since 60 years to people who extraordinarily contributed to the unification of Europe. Famous prize winners were Winston Churchill, Konrad Adenauer, Juan Carlos I of Spain, Henry Kissinger, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, Tony Blair, Angela Merkel and others. Kurt Malangré
Kurt Malangré (18 September 1934 – 4 October 2018) was a German politician and lawyer from Aachen. A member of the CDU, he served as Lord Mayor of Aachen from 1973 to 1989 and as a Member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1999. Malangré belonged to a family of Wallonian origin that moved from Belgium to Stolberg in the mid 19th century. He studied law and became an attorney, and started his political career in November 1969 when he became a member of Aachen's city council. In 1972 he was elected Mayor of Aachen, and from 1973–1989 he served as Lord Mayor. From 1979 to 1999 he was also Member of the European Parliament. Malangré was a supernumerary member of Opus Dei.
