Midpoint Method
In numerical analysis, a branch of applied mathematics, the midpoint method is a one-step method for numerically solving the differential equation, : y'(t) = f(t, y(t)), \quad y(t_0) = y_0 . The explicit midpoint method is given by the formula the implicit midpoint method by for n=0, 1, 2, \dots Here, h is the ''step size'' — a small positive number, t_n=t_0 + n h, and y_n is the computed approximate value of y(t_n). The explicit midpoint method is sometimes also known as the modified Euler method, the implicit method is the most simple collocation method, and, applied to Hamiltonian dynamics, a symplectic integrator. In analysis, numerical integration comprises a broad family of algorithms for calculating the numerical value of a definite integral, and by extension, the term is also sometimes used to describe the numerical solution of differential equations. This article focuses on calculation of definite integrals. Verlet Integration
Verlet integration () is a numerical method used to integrate Newton's equations of motion. It is frequently used to calculate trajectories of particles in molecular dynamics simulations and computer graphics. The algorithm was first used in 1791 by Jean Baptiste Delambre and has been rediscovered many times since then, most recently by Loup Verlet in the 1960s for use in molecular dynamics. It was also used by P. H. Cowell and A. C. C. Crommelin in 1909 to compute the orbit of Halley's Comet, and by Carl Størmer in 1907 to study the trajectories of electrical particles in a magnetic field (hence it is also called Störmer's method). Leapfrog Integration
In numerical analysis, leapfrog integration is a method for numerically integrating differential equations of the form \ddot x = \frac = A(x), or equivalently of the form \dot v = \frac = A(x), \;\dot x = \frac = v, particularly in the case of a dynamical system of classical mechanics. The method is known by different names in different disciplines. In particular, it is similar to the velocity Verlet method, which is a variant of Verlet integration. Leapfrog integration is equivalent to updating positions x(t) and velocities v(t)=\dot x(t) at interleaved time points, staggered in such a way that they "leapfrog" over each other. Rectangle Method
In mathematics, a Riemann sum is a certain kind of approximation of an integral by a finite sum. It is named after nineteenth century German mathematician Bernhard Riemann. One very common application is approximating the area of functions or lines on a graph, but also the length of curves and other approximations. The sum is calculated by partitioning the region into shapes (rectangles, trapezoids, parabolas, or cubics) that together form a region that is similar to the region being measured, then calculating the area for each of these shapes, and finally adding all of these small areas together.
