''Mediocre'' () is the debut studio album by Mexican singer-songwriter Ximena Sariñana, released in the United States on 12 February 2008 via Warner Music Mexico. ''Mediocre'' reached number ten on the ''Billboard'' Latin Pop Albums, and spawned the hit single " Vidas Paralelas". The album gained additional attention when the iTunes Store featured Sariñana's song "Normal" as the ''canción de la semana'' —iTunes' free Latino song of the week— during the week of 8 July 2008. ''Mediocre'' garnered positive reviews from many critics, receiving five stars from '' SoMinty'', four stars from '' Time Out'', and four stars from ''Rolling Stone''. Many critics praised the album for being an eclectic album with a diverse style of songs featuring pop, rock, alternative, and nueva canción styles. Mediocre (composition)
"Mediocre" is a composition written by Bud Powell for his album '' The Lonely One...'' which has been noted for its unconventional structure and its combination of stride piano with jarring right-hand interpretation. History Powell recorded the composition only once in his entire career: on January 13, 1955, at Fine Sound Studios in NYC for Verve Records. He was joined by Percy Heath on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums, and the album was released by Verve as ''The Lonely One...'' in 1959. Reception The unconventional composition has divided critics. Patrick Burnette of All About Jazz described the first half of the track as "slyly humorous," but criticized the recording quality and summarized it as "a frightening record which seems a direct expression of—rather than an aesthetic response to (a la 'Glass Enclosure')—his unstable mental condition." Mediocrity (advertising Campaign)
The 2011 Mediocrity is an advertising campaign launched by Subaru of America to represent the blandness of mid-sized sedans. The ad campaign presents a fictitious vehicle that satirizes the American mid-sized sedan market. Without attacking specific automobile manufacturers, Subaru of America created the Mediocrity, a fictional sedan that exemplifies all of the typical features found on mid-sized sedans in 2010. Campaign The 2011 Mediocrity launch was designed to promote the Subaru Legacy. The campaign started with a digital postcard sent out to key industry insiders, which drove them to a website and informed them of the launch date. A Facebook page was created right before launch to help spark conversations about the car. Some cryptic Tweets also went out pre-launch to help generate awareness of an approaching “big event”.
