This is a list of mayors of Queenstown Borough in New Zealand. The mayor was the head of the Queenstown Borough Council. The borough existed from 1866 until 1986, when it merged with the Lake County to form Queenstown-Lakes District Queenstown-Lakes District, a local government district, is in the Otago Region of New Zealand that was formed in 1986. John Davies (New Zealand Businessman)
Sir John Stratton Davies (born 1 July 1941) is a New Zealand businessman and a former mayor of Queenstown. Through Trojan Holdings Ltd, he is a major owner of South Island tourism companies. Early life Davies was born in Wellington but raised in Dunedin. His parents were Ina Amuri ( Robertson) and Donald William Davies. He received his education at John McGlashan College in Dunedin. In 1965, he married Patricia "Trish" Helen Uren. They have one son and one daughter. Since the early 1960s, they have lived in Queenstown. Lewis Hotop
Lewis Adolph Henry Hotop (born Ludwig Adolph Heinrich Hotop, 1844 – 29 September 1922) was a New Zealand pharmacist, politician and Arbor Day advocate. He served as mayor of Queenstown Borough on three separate occasions. Biography Hotop was born and educated in Saalfeld, Thuringia, Germany. He went to sea for about four years before settling in Queenstown, New Zealand in 1867. He initially worked for Hallenstein and Company, and later bought their pharmacy business on the corner of Rees and Ballarat Streets. He was naturalised in Australia in 1866 and in New Zealand in 1870. By 1873 he was registered by the Otago provincial government as a vendor of poisons and he purchased a newsagent business in Clyde later that year. On 18 November 1873 he married Catherine Elizabeth Sproule, who was governess to the children of Bendix Hallenstein, at Hallenstein's home. A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows. Domestic warrens are artificial, enclosed establishment of animal husbandry dedicated to the raising of rabbits for meat and fur. The term evolved from the medieval Anglo-Norman concept of free warren, which had been, essentially, the equivalent of a hunting license for a given woodland. Warren Cooper
Warren Ernest Cooper (born 21 February 1933) is a former New Zealand politician. He was a National Party MP from 1975 to 1996, holding cabinet positions including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defence. Cooper also twice served as Mayor of Queenstown, from 1968 to 1975 and 1995 to 2001. Early life and career Cooper was born in Dunedin in 1933. He received his education at Musselburgh School and King's High School. He later moved to Queenstown after leaving school at 15. William Anderson (New Zealand Politician)
William Arthur Anderson (29 September, 1888 – 19 August, 1978) was the fifteenth mayor of Queenstown Borough in New Zealand. He served two terms as mayor, from 1939 to 1950, and from 1953 to 1956. He spent 16 years as an elected member of the Queenstown Borough Council, 10 of which were as deputy mayor. Early life and family Anderson was born in 1888 in Grays, Essex, and once visited New Zealand in 1905. He studied medicine at the University of Otago, graduating MB ChB in 1920. In June 1920, Anderson married Mary Lee. Their daughter, Jan, became a leading researcher in photosynthesis. Anderson’s wife died after a long illness when Jan was eight years old. Francis St Omer
Francis St Omer (1827 – 18 April 1915) was a baker, restaurateur, and councillor in Queenstown, New Zealand. He was born in Marseilles, France, and in his youth pursued the gold rushes of California, Victoria, and in 1863 Queenstown. He operated a bakery and restaurant business until his death. St Omer was a councillor for 11 years and the mayor of Queenstown Borough from 1887 to 1891 and 1894 to 1903. William Warren (journalist)
William Warren (1833 – 3 January 1900) was the fifth mayor of Queenstown Borough in New Zealand. He was born in Royston, England. His father John was also a journalist. William followed the gold rush to Victoria and then Otago. In 1864 he acquired, initially in partnership with R.Wills; the ''Wakatip Mail'' and became sole owner in May 1867. William Warren was a borough councillor for many years and served two terms as mayor of Queenstown; 1877–1878 and 1881–1882. He also formed a Cadet Corps in the Volunteer movement, and was the Captain. He was prominent in the Freemasons, joining the Masonic Lake Lodge of Ophir in 1868, and held several offices in a long membership. He also took a prominent part in the Anglican Church. Bendix Hallenstein (c. 24 January 1835 – 6 January 1905) was a German-born Jewish merchant, statesman, and Manufacturing, manufacturer from Dunedin, New Zealand. He is best known for founding the retail clothing store Hallenstein Brothers, Hallensteins, which still bears his name, and is now part of the Hallensteins Glassons group. He also founded the D.I.C. (department store) in Dunedin in 1884.
