Michael Hancock (Colorado Politician)
Michael B. Hancock (born July 29, 1969) is an American author and politician serving as the 45th Mayor of Denver, Colorado since 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, he was in his second term as the Denver City Councilor from the 11th district at the time he was elected to the mayorship. During his tenure on the Denver City Council from July 20, 2003, to July 18, 2011, Hancock served two terms as the body's president, the last ending in 2008. He was sworn in as Mayor of Denver on July 18, 2011, after defeating Chris Romer in a runoff election on June 7, 2011. Easily reelected with no significant opposition in 2015, Hancock was reelected to a third term in 2019. He is Denver's second African American mayor after Wellington Webb. Platt Rogers (1850 – December 25, 1928) was an American politician who served as the mayor of Denver, Colorado from 1891 to 1893. Life He was born in 1850 in Newton, New Jersey, shortly thereafter moving along with his family to New York City. He later graduated from Columbia University in 1873, before moving west with his family, while passing through Greeley, Colorado he was so impressed with the town he decided he would remain in the state. He became a practicing attorney, specializing in Irrigation Law. In 1884 litigation arose regarding the High Line Canal and he was called to Denver to represent the English group who constructed it. He served as a District Court Judge in Colorado's Second Judicial District (Denver) from 1882 to 1887. Wolfe Londoner (July 4, 1842 – November 23, 1912) was an American politician who served as the mayor of Denver, Colorado from 1889 to 1891. Biography He was born on 4 July 1842 to parents Herman Londoner and Rachel Hearst in New York City, New York. While his father was a wealthy merchant, he found himself to become restless and at the age of 13 years, he left home and travelled by steamship to San Francisco. While here he found employment in a local hotel (where he received $125 a month, including board) and also took on work at an auctioneers helping sell goods every evening (where he received $200 a month). He continued with this work until he had saved enough to open his own grocery business, he remained here for 4 years, until he decided to return to New York, where he went into business with his father.
