Max-flow Routing
In optimization theory, maximum flow problems involve finding a feasible flow through a flow network that obtains the maximum possible flow rate. The maximum flow problem can be seen as a special case of more complex network flow problems, such as the circulation problem. The maximum value of an s-t flow (i.e., flow from source s to sink t) is equal to the minimum capacity of an s-t cut (i.e., cut severing s from t) in the network, as stated in the max-flow min-cut theorem. History The maximum flow problem was first formulated in 1954 by T. E. Harris and F. S. Ross as a simplified model of Soviet railway traffic flow. In 1955, Lester R. Ford, Jr. and Delbert R. Max-flow Min-cut Theorem
In computer science and optimization theory, the max-flow min-cut theorem states that in a flow network, the maximum amount of flow passing from the ''source'' to the ''sink'' is equal to the total weight of the edges in a minimum cut, i.e., the smallest total weight of the edges which if removed would disconnect the source from the sink. A link/cut tree is a data structure for representing a forest, a set of rooted trees, and offers the following operations: * Add a tree consisting of a single node to the forest. * Given a node in one of the trees, disconnect it (and its subtree) from the tree of which it is part. * Attach a node to another node as its child. * Given a node, find the root of the tree to which it belongs. Dinic's Algorithm
Dinic's algorithm or Dinitz's algorithm is a strongly polynomial algorithm for computing the maximum flow in a flow network, conceived in 1970 by Israeli (formerly Soviet) computer scientist Yefim (Chaim) A. Dinitz. The algorithm runs in O(V^2 E) time and is similar to the Edmonds–Karp algorithm, which runs in O(VE^2) time, in that it uses shortest augmenting paths. The introduction of the concepts of the ''level graph'' and ''blocking flow'' enable Dinic's algorithm to achieve its performance. Breadth-first Search
Breadth-first search (BFS) is an algorithm for searching a tree data structure for a node that satisfies a given property. It starts at the tree root and explores all nodes at the present depth prior to moving on to the nodes at the next depth level. Extra memory, usually a queue, is needed to keep track of the child nodes that were encountered but not yet explored. For example, in a chess endgame a chess engine may build the game tree from the current position by applying all possible moves, and use breadth-first search to find a win position for white.
