Jo Luxton
Jo-Anne Marie Luxton (born 1973) is a New Zealand politician and a Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives for the Labour Party. Personal life Luxton owns and operates the Hinds Early Learning Centre, the first such business in New Zealand to be an accredited Living Wage Employer. She is the great-niece of former Labour Prime Minister Norman Kirk. She is of Māori descent. Political career Luxton stood for Labour in the electorate in the and was placed 29 on Labour's party list. Luxton did not win the electorate, but entered parliament via the Party list. At the 2020 New Zealand general election Luxton again ran in Rangitata for the Labour party; and in a surprise victory, defeated National's Megan Hands by a final margin of 4,408 votes. Norman Luxton
Norman K. Luxton (November 2, 1876 – October 26, 1962) was a pioneer in the Canadian Rockies known as "Mr. Banff". With John Voss, he attempted to sail around the world in an old red cedar Indian dug-out canoe. On his return to Canada, he worked on improving the community of Banff and the relationship between its residents and the aboriginal community. Personal life Norman Luxton was the son of Winnipeg Free Press co-founder, William Luxton in Fort Garry, Manitoba (now Winnipeg). After working with his father at the Free Press in Manitoba and for the Indian Agency at Rat Portage (now, Kenora, Ontario) in 1892. In 1893, Norman decided to head to the Cariboo Gold Fields to make his fortune. It is hard to know if he did make it to the gold fields, but he did make it to Calgary and worked for the Calgary Herald for the next eight years before moving to Vancouver in 1901. John Luxton
Murray John Finlay Luxton (14 September 1946 – 16 November 2021) was a New Zealand National Party politician, serving as a Member of Parliament from 1987 to 2002. From 2008 to 2015, he was the Chairman of DairyNZ, the organisation that represents all New Zealand dairy farmers. He was co-chair of the Waikato River Authority, a Crown/iwi co-governance organisation established through Treaty of Waitangi settlement legislation to clean up the Waikato River. Early life and family Born in Morrinsville on 14 September 1946, Luxton was educated at Hamilton Boys' High School and Massey University (BAgSc, DipAgSc, DipBusSc, MMgt). Charles Luxton
Charles Henry Luxton (19 January 1861 – 17 October 1918) was an English clergyman and a cricketer who played in two first-class cricket matches for Cambridge University in 1881 and 1882. He was born at Bondleigh, Devon and died at St Pancras, London. Luxton was educated at Devon County School, West Buckland and at Peterhouse, Cambridge. In his two first-class cricket games, he was a tail-end batsman and a bowler, and neither his batting nor his bowling style are known; he made little impression in either game. In minor cricket, he played for Devon and other amateur sides through to the mid 1880s. Luxton graduated from Cambridge University in 1883 and was ordained as a priest in the Church of England.
