Longline Fishing
Longline fishing, or longlining, is a commercial fishing angling technique that uses a long ''main line'' with baited hooks attached at intervals via short branch lines called ''snoods'' or ''gangions''.Method and Apparatus for Long Line and Recreational Bait Fishing
Patent application 20080202013. 28 August 2008.
A snood is attached to the main line using a clip or swivel, with the hook at the other end. Longlines are classified mainly by where they are placed in the . This can be at the surface or at the bottom. Lines can also be set by means of an anchor, or left to drift. Hundreds or even thousands of baited hooks can hang from a single line. This can l ...

AT&T Long Lines
AT&T Communications, Inc., was a division of the AT&T Corporation that, through 23 subsidiaries, provided interexchange carrier and long-distance calling, long-distance telephone services. History AT&T Long Lines The American Telephone & Telegraph Long Lines wire, cable, and microwave radio relay network provided long-distance services to AT&T and its customers. The connection to other countries from the United States began here. By the 1970s, 95% of distance and 70% of intercity telephone calls in the United States were carried by AT&T. Before utilizing microwave relay and coaxial cables, AT&T used lines for long-distance calling, long-distance service. In 1911, the system connected New York to Denver. The introduction of repeater towers allowed such connections to reach across North America. In the 1930s the company experimented with long-distance coaxial cable. The first long-distance L-carrier coaxial link in 1936 connected Philadelphia and New York City. With impr ...

Long Line (topology)
In topology, the long line (or Alexandroff line) is a topological space somewhat similar to the real line, but in a certain way "longer". It behaves locally just like the real line, but has different large-scale properties (e.g., it is neither Lindelöf nor separable). Therefore, it serves as one of the basic counterexamples of topology. Intuitively, the usual real-number line consists of a countable number of line segments [0,1) laid end-to-end, whereas the long line is constructed from an uncountable number of such segments. Definition The closed long ray L is defined as the cartesian product of the First uncountable ordinal, first uncountable ordinal \omega_1 with the Interval (mathematics), half-open interval [0, 1), equipped with the order topology that arises from the lexicographical order on \omega_1 \times [0,1). The open long ray is obtained from the closed long ray by removing the smallest element (0, 0). The long line is obtained by putting together a long ray i ...

Long Line (telecommunications)
In telecommunication, a long line is a transmission line in a long-distance communications network such as carrier systems, microwave radio relay links, geosynchronous satellite links, underground cables, aerial cables and open wire, and Submarine communications cables. In the United States, some of this technology was spun off into the corporate entity known as ''AT&T Long Distance'' with the breakup of AT&T in 1984. Previously, the AT&T Long Lines division of the Bell System provided maintenance and installation of long line facilities for the Bell System's long-distance service. See also * Long-haul communications * Long-distance calling In telecommunications, a long-distance call (U.S.) or trunk call (also known as a toll call in the U.K. ) is a telephone call made to a location outside a defined local calling area. Long-distance calls are typically charged a higher billing rate ... {{DEFAULTSORT:Long Line (Telecommunications) Telephony Communication circuits ...

33 Thomas Street
33 Thomas Street (formerly the AT&T Long Lines Building) is a windowless skyscraper in Tribeca, Lower Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States. The building stands on the east side of Church Street, between Thomas Street and Worth Street. The building is an example of the Brutalist architectural style. It is a telephone exchange or wire center building which contained three major 4ESS switches used for interexchange ( long distance) telephony, as well as a number of other switches used for competitive local exchange carrier services. However, it is not used for incumbent local exchange carrier services, and is not a central office. The CLLI code for this facility is NYCMNYBW. The building has also been described as the likely location of a National Security Agency (NSA) mass surveillance hub codenamed TITANPOINTE. History The location was previously the site of cast-iron buildings, typical of the area, the facades of which were preserved before demolition. T ...
