Linus (magazine)
''linus'' is an Italian comics magazine published in Italy since 1965. It is the first Italian magazine exclusively focused on comics. During a period of crisis, the magazine was not published in May and June 2013, but returned in July, published by Baldini & Castoldi. History and profile The first number of ''linus'' was published in April 1965 by Milano Libri, a subsidiary of Rizzoli, and was later published by Baldini & Castoldi in monthly issues until April 2013. Its founder was Giovanni Gandini. The magazine's name was always written in lowercase letters. It had a sister magazine, ''Alter'', which was also a comics magazine. Both magazines had a leftist cultural stance and their editorials supported for the Italian Communist Party. The first director of ''linus'' was Giovanni Gandini. Umberto Eco
Umberto Eco (5 January 1932 – 19 February 2016) was an Italian medievalist, philosopher, semiotician, novelist, cultural critic, and political and social commentator. In English, he is best known for his popular 1980 novel ''The Name of the Rose'', a historical mystery combining semiotics in fiction with biblical analysis, medieval studies and literary theory, as well as ''Foucault's Pendulum,'' his 1988 novel which touches on similar themes. Enki Bilal (born Enes Bilal; born 7 October 1951) is a French comic book creator, comics artist and film director. Biography Early life Bilal was born in Belgrade, PR Serbia, Yugoslavia, to a Czech mother, Ana, who came to Belgrade as child from Karlovy Vary, and a Bosnian Muslim father, Muhamed Hamo Bilal, from Ljubuški, who had been Josip Broz Tito's tailor. When he was five years old, his father managed to take a trip and stay in Paris as a political émigré. Enki and the rest of the family, his mother Ana and sister Enisa, stayed in Yugoslavia, and four years later they followed. Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (; 8 May 1938 – 10 March 2012) was a French artist, cartoonist, and writer who worked in the Bandes dessinées, Franco-Belgian ''bandes dessinées'' (BD) tradition. Jeff Hawke
''Jeff Hawke'' was a British science fiction comic strip created by Sydney Jordan. It was published in the ''Daily Express'' from 15 February 1955 to 18 April 1974, by which point Jordan had "written or co-written and drawn 6,474 episodes." Despite its obscurity in English-speaking countries, it is often regarded as one of the most important science fiction comics ever released, especially in Italy and Scandinavian countries. Publication history Sydney Jordan was a graduate of the Aeronautical Technical School in Reading, Berkshire, Reading. He long sought to draw a fantastic comic where he could exploit his skills in drawing aeroplanes. In 1955 he met Eric Souster and Jim Gilbert in London, two friends with whom he had served in the Royal Air Force, R.A.F. Together they created the character of Jeff Hawke. ''Oreste'' ("Orestes", HWV A11, HG 48/102) is an opera by George Frideric Handel in three acts. The libretto was anonymously adapted from Giangualberto Barlocci’s ''L’Oreste'' (1723, Rome), which was in turn adapted from Euripides' ''Iphigeneia in Tauris''.Hicks The opera is a ''pasticcio'' (pastiche), meaning that the music of the arias was assembled from earlier works, mainly other operas and cantatas also by Handel. Jules Ralph Feiffer (born January 26, 1929)''Comics Buyer's Guide'' #1650; February 2009; Page 107 is an American cartoonist and author, who was considered the most widely read satirist in the country. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1986 as North-America's leading editorial cartoonist, and in 2004 he was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame. He wrote the animated short ''Munro'', which won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1961. The Library of Congress has recognized his "remarkable legacy", from 1946 to the present, as a cartoonist, playwright, screenwriter, adult and children's book author, illustrator, and art instructor. Vauro
Vauro Senesi (born 24 March 1955) is an Italian journalist and satirical cartoonist. Vauro was born in Pistoia. He was Pino Zac's apprentice, and, together with Giancarlo Fusco, Cinzia Leone and others, in September 1978 they founded ''Il Male'', a satirical weekly newspaper. It was published until March 1982. His cartoons have been published in magazines such as ''Satyricon'', ''Linus'', ''Cuore'', ''I quaderni del Sale'', ''L'Echo des Savanes'' and ''El Jueves''. He is director of the satirical e-weekly ''Boxer'', collaborator of '' Il Corriere della Sera'' and Smemoranda. In 1996, he won the Political Satirist Prize of Forte dei Marmi. Sergio Staino
Sergio Staino (born 8 June 1940) is an Italian comics author, satirist and film director. Biography Staino was born at Piancastagnaio, in the province of Siena. After graduating in architecture, he moved to Scandicci. His comics debut was with Bobo, an autobiographical character, published in the magazine ''Linus'' starting from 1979. In the 1980s he collaborated with the newspapers ''Il Messaggero'' and ''L'Unità'', for which he still works. In 1986 he founded the satirical magazine ''Tango''. From 1987 to 1993, he also directed satirical TV shows for Rai 3, such as ''Teletango'' and ''Cielito Lindo''; in this period he also directed two movies, ''Cavalli si nasce'' (1989) and ''Non chiamarmi Omar'' (1992).
