Libxml
libxml2 is a software library for parsing XML documents. It is also the basis for the libxslt library which processes XSLT-1.0 stylesheets. Description Written in the C programming language, libxml2 provides bindings to C++, Ch, XSH, C#, Python, Kylix/Delphi and other Pascals, Ruby, Perl, Common Lisp, and PHP. It was originally developed for the GNOME project, but can be used outside it. libxml2's code is highly portable, since it depends on standard ANSI C libraries only, and it is released under the MIT license. This library was written by Daniel Veillard and receives active feedback from its users. It includes the command-line utility xmllint and an HTML parser. XSLT
XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations) is a language originally designed for transforming XML documents into other XML documents, or other formats such as HTML for web pages, plain text or XSL Formatting Objects, which may subsequently be converted to other formats, such as PDF, PostScript and PNG. Support for JSON and plain-text transformation was added in later updates to the XSLT 1.0 specification. As of August 2022, the most recent stable version of the language is XSLT 3.0, which achieved Recommendation status in June 2017. XSLT 3.0 implementations support Java, .NET, C/C++, Python, PHP and NodeJS. An XSLT 3.0 Javascript library can also be hosted within the Web Browser. Modern web browsers also include native support for XSLT 1.0. For an XSLT document transformation, the original document is not changed; rather, a new document is created based on the content of an existing one. Typically, input documents are XML files, but anything from which the processo ...

Libxslt
libxslt is the XSLT C library developed for the GNOME project. It provides an implementation of XSLT 1.0, plus most of the EXSLT set of processor-portable extensions functions and some of Saxon's evaluate and expressions extensions. libxslt is based on libxml2, which it uses for XML parsing, tree manipulation and XPath support. It is free software released under the MIT License and can be reused in commercial applications. libxslt can be used either as library embedded into an application, or via thxsltproccommand line tool. The integration into applications is eased by a multitude o Being written in C, libxslt is a fast and low-resource processor. This makes it a popular choice for DocBook formatting and as standard XSLT processor for programming languages like PHP, Perl or Python. The WebKit layout engine (used e.g. in Apple Safari and Google Chrome web browser) uses the libxslt library to do XSL transformations. XML Validation
XML validation is the process of checking a document written in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) to confirm that it is both well-formed and also "valid" in that it follows a defined structure. A well-formed document follows the basic syntactic rules of XML, which are the same for all XML documents. A valid document also respects the rules dictated by a particular DTD or XML schema. Automated tools – validators – can perform well-formedness tests and many other validation tests, but not those that require human judgement, such as correct application of a schema to a data set. Standards * OASIS CAM is a standard specification that provides contextual validation of content and structure that is more flexible than basic schema validations. * Schematron, a method for advanced XML validation. Tools * '' xmllint'' is a command line XML tool that can perform XML validation. It can be found in UNIX / Linux Linux ( or ) is a family of open-source Unix-like operating syst ...

Saxon XSLT
Saxon is an XSLT and XQuery processor created by Michael Kay and now developed and maintained by his company, Saxonica. There are open-source and also closed-source commercial versions. Versions exist for Java, JavaScript and .NET. The current version, as of April 2022, is 11.3. Versions The original development line of Saxon ended with the version 6 series. This is a series of XSLT 1.0 processors. The current version, 6.5.5, is not undergoing further development aside from maintenance. The 6 series is only available for the Java programming language. The current development line, Saxon 11, implements the XSLT 3.0 and XQuery 3.1 specifications. Saxon is also capable of processing XSLT 1.0 and XSLT 2.0 stylesheets. (XSLT 2.0 and 3.0 are highly backwards compatible with XSLT 1.0.). There are two separate source bases: the Java source, and the JavaScript source. The Java source is used to generate products for three platforms: SaxonJ (for Java and other JVM languages such as Sc ...

The GNOME Project
GNOME Project is a community behind the GNOME desktop environment and the software platform upon which it is based. It consists of all the software developers, artists, writers, translators, other contributors, and active users of GNOME. It is no longer part of the GNU Project. GNOME Foundation In August 2000, the GNOME Foundation was set up to deal with administrative tasks and press interest, and to act as a contact point for companies interested in developing GNOME software. While not directly involved in technical decisions, the Foundation does coordinate releases and decide which projects will be part of GNOME. Membership is open to anyone who has made a non-trivial contribution to the project. Members of the Foundation elect a board of directors every November, and candidates for the positions must be members themselves. Programs and events The GNOME Project holds several community programs and events, usually tailored to local users and developers. The main gathering of ...

Common Lisp
Common Lisp (CL) is a dialect of the Lisp programming language, published in ANSI standard document ''ANSI INCITS 226-1994 (S20018)'' (formerly ''X3.226-1994 (R1999)''). The Common Lisp HyperSpec, a hyperlinked HTML version, has been derived from the ANSI Common Lisp standard. The Common Lisp language was developed as a standardized and improved successor of Maclisp. By the early 1980s several groups were already at work on diverse successors to MacLisp: Lisp Machine Lisp (aka ZetaLisp), Spice Lisp, NIL and S-1 Lisp. Common Lisp sought to unify, standardise, and extend the features of these MacLisp dialects. Common Lisp is not an implementation, but rather a language specification. Several implementations of the Common Lisp standard are available, including free and open-source software and proprietary products. Common Lisp is a general-purpose, multi-paradigm programming language. It supports a combination of procedural, functional, and object-oriented programming paradigms ...

GNOME Libraries
A gnome is a mythological creature and diminutive spirit in Renaissance magic and alchemy, first introduced by Paracelsus in the 16th century and later adopted by more recent authors including those of modern fantasy literature. Its characteristics have been reinterpreted to suit the needs of various story tellers, but it is typically said to be a small humanoid that lives underground. Diminutive statues of gnomes introduced as lawn ornaments during the 19th century grew in popularity during the 20th century and came to be known as garden gnomes. History Origins The word comes from Renaissance Latin ''gnomus'', which first appears in ''A Book on Nymphs, Sylphs, Pygmies, and Salamanders, and on the Other Spirits'' by Paracelsus, published posthumously in Nysa in 1566 (and again in the Johannes Huser edition of 1589–1591 from an autograph by Paracelsus). The term may be an original invention of Paracelsus, possibly deriving the term from Latin ''gēnomos'' (itself representi ...

C (programming Language) Libraries
C, or c, is the third letter in the Latin alphabet, used in the modern English alphabet, the alphabets of other western European languages and others worldwide. Its name in English is ''cee'' (pronounced ), plural ''cees''. History "C" comes from the same letter as "G". The Semites named it gimel. The sign is possibly adapted from an Egyptian hieroglyph for a staff sling, which may have been the meaning of the name ''gimel''. Another possibility is that it depicted a camel, the Semitic name for which was ''gamal''. Barry B. Powell, a specialist in the history of writing, states "It is hard to imagine how gimel = "camel" can be derived from the picture of a camel (it may show his hump, or his head and neck!)". In the Etruscan language, plosive consonants had no contrastive voicing, so the Greek ' Γ' (Gamma) was adopted into the Etruscan alphabet to represent . Already in the Western Greek alphabet, Gamma first took a '' form in Early Etruscan, then '' in Classical Etru ...

Apache Xerces
In computing, Xerces is Apache's collection of software libraries for parsing, validating, serializing and manipulating XML. The library implements a number of standard APIs for XML parsing, including DOM, SAX and SAX2. The implementation is available in the Java, C++ and Perl programming languages. The name "Xerces" is believed to commemorate the extinct Xerces blue butterfly (''Glaucopsyche xerces''). Xerces language versions There are several language versions of the Xerces parser: * Xerces2 Java, the Java reference implementation * Xerces C++, a C++ implementation * Xerces Perl, a Perl implementation. This implementation is a wrapper around the C++ API. Though technically marked active by Apache, there has been no major release in any language since 2010. Features The features supported by Xerces depend on the language, the Java version having the most features. Expat (library)
Expat is a stream-oriented XML 1.0 parser library, written in C. As one of the first available open-source XML parsers, Expat has found a place in many open-source projects. Such projects include the Apache HTTP Server, Mozilla, Perl, Python and PHP. It is also bound in many other languages. Timeline Software developer James Clark released version 1.0 in 1998 while serving as technical lead on the XML Working Group at the World Wide Web Consortium. Clark released two more versions, 1.1 and 1.2, before turning the project over to a group led by Clark Cooper and Fred Drake in 2000. The new group released version 1.95.0 in September 2000 and continues to release new versions to incorporate bug fixes and enhancements. Availability GitHub hosts the Expat project. Versions exist for most major operating-systems. Deployment To use the Expat library, programs first register handler functions with Expat. When Expat parses an XML document, it calls the registered handlers as i ...

Comparison Of HTML Parsers
HTML parsers are software for automated Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) parsing. They have two main purposes: * HTML traversal: offer an interface for programmers to easily access and modify the "HTML string code". Canonical example: Document Object Model#Libraries, DOM parsers. * HTML clean: to fix invalid HTML and to improve the layout and indent style of the resulting markup. Canonical example: HTML Tidy. : * Latest release (of significant changes) date. : ** ''sanitize'' (generating standard-compatible web-page, reduce spam, etc.) and ''clean'' (strip out surplus presentational tags, remove XSS code, etc.) HTML code. : *** Updates HTML4.X to XHTML or to HTML5, converting deprecated tags (ex. CENTER) to valid ones (ex. DIV with style="text-align:center;"). References
