Saint-Étienne-le-Laus
Saint-Étienne-le-Laus (Vivaro-Alpine: ''Sant Estève lo Laus'') is a commune in the Hautes-Alpes department in southeastern France. History Besides being a popular vacation spot, the region is probably best known for the lengthy series of Marian apparitions which are said to have occurred there between 1664 and 1718, reported by shepherdess Benoîte Rencurel. The church that was established around these Marian apparitions, Notre Dame du Laus, has been described as "one of the most hidden and yet powerful treasures in the history of Europe". :fr:Notre-Dame du Laus The apparitions were officially recognized by the diocesan authority of the Roman Catholic Church on September 18, 1665. The "Laus" (formerly spelled "Laux") in the name of the commune, Saint-Étienne-le-Laus, and that of the church, Our Lady of Laus, means "lake", in the Alpine Provençal dialect, which was a local derivation from the Latin word "lacus". On votive offerings and some older stones, the indication is Lat ...

Our Lady Of Laus
Our Lady of Laus (french: Notre-Dame du Laus) or Refuge of Sinners denotes Marian apparitions that took place between 1664 and 1718 in Saint-Étienne-le-Laus, France, to Benoîte Rencurel, a young shepherdess. The apparitions were approved by the Holy See on 5 May 2008. Pope Pius IX granted a Canonical Coronation to her marble image on 23 May 1855. Background Situated in Dauphiné, in southern France at the foot of the Alps, just southeast of Gap, is the valley of Laus. Its name means "lake" in the local dialect, as there once was one at the bottom of the basin. In 1666 the hamlet held twenty households scattered in little huts. The inhabitants had built a chapel dedicated to the Annunciation, ''Notre-Dame de Bon Rencontre'' (means Our Lady of the Good Encounter, i.e., the Annunciation). Apparitions Benoite was born on September 16, 1647, into extreme poverty in the village of St Etienne d’Avancon. Her father died when she was only seven. By the time Benoite was twelve she to ...

Notre-Dame-du-Laus is a municipality in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Antoine-Labelle Regional County Municipality. The municipality is characterized by hilly forests with a great number of lakes, rivers, and creeks. Because of those nature gems, there are many cottages owned and built in the area. The eastern portion of its territory is part of the Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve. Laüs
Laüs or Laus ( grc, Λᾶος; it, Laos) was an ancient city of Magna Graecia on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was a colony of Sybaris at the mouth of the Lao River, which formed the boundary between Lucania and Bruttium in ancient times. The river and the city have the same name in Ancient Greek. Today the archaeological site of the city can be found at a short distance to the east of Marcellina, a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' of Santa Maria del Cedro in Calabria. History Little is known about its foundation or history. Herodotus states that the inhabitants of Sybaris who had survived the destruction of their city in 510 BCE took refuge in Laüs and Scidrus. Diodorus Siculus seems to imply that that city had been captured by the Lucanians before or during 390 BCE. He writes that the army of Thurii had repelled a force of the Lucanians which had attacked their territory in 390 BCE. The Lucanians then withdrew to their own territory and Thurians pursued ...
