Killing Of James Scurlock
On May 30, 2020, James Scurlock, a 22-year-old black male protester, was fatally shot by a 38-year-old bar owner, Jacob "Jake" Gardner. The shooting took place during George Floyd protests in Omaha, Nebraska, in the Old Market area of the city. Scurlock had been among the thousands of protesters who flooded the city's downtown area. Surveillance video of the strip of bars shows a group of people, including Scurlock, approached by Jacob Gardner, his father, and one other male in the street. Jacob Gardner's elderly father was shoved by a man to the ground. Gardner, who was nearby, pulled a handgun from his waistband, and verbally threatened the group. Gardner returned the firearm to his waistband, and was then attacked by two members of the group after he turned his back on them. George Floyd Protests In Nebraska
This is a List of George Floyd protests in the United States, list of protests and unrests in the US state of Nebraska related to the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. Manslaughter is a crime in the United States. Definitions can vary among jurisdictions, but manslaughter is invariably the act of causing the death of another person in a manner less culpable than murder. Three types of unlawful killings constitute manslaughter. First, there is voluntary manslaughter which is an intentional homicide committed in "sudden heat of passion" as the result of adequate provocation. Second, there is the form of involuntary manslaughter which is an unintentional homicide that was committed in a criminally negligent manner.
