Korab Coat Of Arms
Korab is a Polish coat of arms. It was used by many '' szlachta'' (noble) families under the Kingdom of Poland and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. History * Motto of the Korab coat of arms: "''Deo Gloria''" ("Glory to God"). * First Mention: 1242 Zbislaw of Korab appointed Voivode of Sieradz * Second Registry: 1292 from the Seal of Korab. * Third Registry: 1480s - Revised. "The golden Watchtower within the Ark of Noah was removed from the Seal of Korab and replaced with a Black Mast. In 1983 the Polish Korab coat of arms was unusually incorporated into a grant of arms by the English College of Arms in London. These new arms included the Ciołek Arms held by the Zelenski (Zileinski) clan which were used as the crest of the Armorial Bearings with the shield of the Korab remaining the same. Jan Łaski (1456–1531)
Jan Łaski (1456 in Łask – 19 May 1531 in Kalisz, Poland) was a Polish nobleman, Grand Chancellor of the Crown (1503–10), diplomat, from 1490 secretary to Poland's King Casimir IV Jagiellon and from 1508 coadjutor to the Archbishop of Lwów. From 1510 Łaski was Archbishop of Gniezno and thus Primate of Poland. Biography He was the uncle of his namesake John à Lasco, the noted Protestant reformer, who helped reform the Church of England, and who was called home by King Sigismund II to effect similar reforms in the Commonwealth. A heraldic clan (''ród herbowy''), in Poland, comprised all the noble (''szlachta'') bearers of the same coat of arms. The members of a heraldic clan were not necessarily linked by consanguinity. The concept was unique to Polish heraldry. History The Polish word ''herb'' derives from the German ''Erbe'', "inheritance" or "heritage", and denotes a coat of arms. Unrelated families could be granted the same coat of arms and thus become co-armigers sharing the same ''herb''. Bearers of the same coat of arms were variously called ''herbowni'', ''współherbowni'' (co-armorials), or ''klejnotni'', from ''klejnot'', "jewel". The numbers of such individual families often reached several dozen; several hundred were not uncommon. Ludomił Antoni Rayski (29 December 1892 – 11 April 1977) was a Polish engineer, pilot, military officer and aviator. Jacques Hnizdovsky ( uk, Яків Гніздовський, pl, Jakub Gniazdowski, hr, Jakiv Hnizdovskij), (1915–1985) was a Ukrainian-American painter, printmaker, graphic designer, illustrator and sculptor. Biography Jacques Hnizdovsky was born on January 27, 1915 in Ukraine in what is now Chortkiv Raion of Ternopil Oblast to a noble family bearing the Korab coat of arms. He was the youngest of seven children and the only member of his family that was able to emigrate to the west. He began his fine arts studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Germany's invasion of Poland and bombardment of Warsaw forced Jacques to flee Warsaw and continue his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Janisław unconditionally supported the policy of reunification of Polish lands carried out by Władysław I the Elbow-high, whom he crowned King of Poland on 20 January 1320.
