Kansk (russian: Канск) is a town in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, located on both banks of the Kan River. Population: History and economy Founded in 1628 as a Russian fort, it was transferred to its current location in 1636 and granted town status in 1782. The town is a center of the Kansk-Achinsk lignite basin, which in the early 1980s was developed into one of the largest coal areas of the Soviet Union. It also has cotton, timber, hydrolysis, and food industries. Kansk (air Base)
Kansk-Dalny is an air base in Russia located 9 km south of Kansk. It is a fighter base with about 10 remote revetments. The base is home to the 712th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment which flies the Mikoyan MiG-31 (NATO: Foxhound) under the 21st Composite Aviation Division. Station history The 712th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment arrived at Kansk in 1959. The 712th Guards were previously based at Kansk-Tsentralny, an old 2000m runway, with no taxiways that exists between the city and airfield, closed in the 1990s.The regiment flew Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 (NATO: Fresco) aircraft during the 1970s, Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 (NATO: Foxbat), Sukhoi Su-15TM (NATO: Flagon) aircraft during the 1980s and Mikoyan MiG-31 (ASCC "Foxhound") aircraft during the 1990s. Pyotr Ivanovich Slovtsov (russian: Пётр Ива́нович Словцо́в; 30 June 1886 – 24 February 1934) was a famous Russian tenor. Early years Slovtsov was born in the village of Ustyanskoye in Yeniseysk Governorate of the Russian Empire, to the family of a deacon. His father died when the boy was five, and the mother re-located with Pyotr to Krasnoyarsk. According to family tradition, the boy attended an ecclesiastical school and then a seminary. At the seminary, the boy's discant was noticed by the seminary's choir-master, Pavel Ivanov-Radkevich, who entrusted Pyotr with performing a solo. The local press was impressed with Pyotr's performance to the point of predicting a brilliant career for the boy. After the graduation, Slovtsov entered the law school of the University of Warsaw, but dropped out only six months later, choosing to attend Moscow Conservatory instead.
