Illusory Motion
The term illusory motion, also known as motion illusion, is an optical illusion in which a static image appears to be moving due to the cognition, cognitive effects of interacting color contrasts, object shapes, and position. Beta movement, Apparent motion is the most common type of illusory motion and is perceived when images are displayed in succession at a specific frame rate such as in a movie. The concept was allegedly first identified by Aristotle. Types of illusory motion Induced movement works by moving the background around a fixed object. Films such as ''Airplane!'' and ''Top Secret!'' use a fixed prop and move the background props to give the effect of induced motion. Motion aftereffect occurs when one views moving stimuli for an extended period of time and then focus on a stationary object. Op art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. Op artworks are abstract, with many better-known pieces created in black and white. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns, or swelling or warping. Akiyoshi Kitaoka
is a Professor of Psychology at the College of Letters, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan. In 1984, he received a BSc from the Department of Biology, University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba, Japan, where he studied animal psychology (burrowing behavior in rats) and (at the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Neuroscience) neuronal activity of the inferotemporal cortex in macaque monkeys. After his 1991 PhD from the Institute of Psychology, University of Tsukuba, he specialized in visual perception and visual illusions of geometrical shape, brightness, color, in motion illusions and other visual phenomena like Gestalt completion and Perceptual transparency, based on a modern conception of Gestalt Psychology. Merriweather Post Pavilion (album)
''Merriweather Post Pavilion'' is the eighth studio album by American experimental pop group Animal Collective, released in January 2009 on Domino Records. Neo-psychedelia
Neo-psychedelia is a diverse genre of psychedelic music that draws inspiration from the sounds of 1960s psychedelia, either updating or copying the approaches from that era. Originating in the 1970s, it has occasionally seen mainstream pop success but is typically explored within alternative rock scenes. Aliasing
In signal processing and related disciplines, aliasing is an effect that causes different signals to become indistinguishable (or ''aliases'' of one another) when sampled. It also often refers to the distortion or artifact that results when a signal reconstructed from samples is different from the original continuous signal. Optical flow or optic flow is the pattern of apparent motion of objects, surfaces, and edges in a visual scene caused by the relative motion between an observer and a scene. Optical flow can also be defined as the distribution of apparent velocities of movement of brightness pattern in an image.
