Jeet Heer is a Canadian author, comics critic, literary critic and journalist. He is a national affairs correspondent for ''The Nation'' magazine and a former staff writer at ''The New Republic''. As of 2014, he was writing a doctoral thesis at York University in Toronto. Jeffrey Heer
Jeffrey Michael Heer (born June 15, 1979) is an American computer scientist best known for his work on information visualization and interactive data analysis. He is a professor of computer science & engineering at the University of Washington, where he directs the UW Interactive Data Lab. He co-founded Trifacta with Joe Hellerstein and Sean Kandel in 2012. Education Heer received a B.S., M.S. and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. As a graduate student at UC Berkeley, he developed the Prefuse and Flare visualization toolkits. Research and career Heer was an assistant professor of computer science at Stanford University, from 2009 to 2013. He is also co-founder and chief experience officer of Trifacta. Heer's research focuses on new systems and techniques for data visualization. As a member of the Stanford University faculty, he worked with Mike Bostock on the Protovis and D3.js systems. Kamal Heer
Kamal Heer (born Kamaljeet Singh Heer) is an Indian born Canadian musician. He is the younger brother of Manmohan Waris and Sangtar, two other esteemed musicians. His live performances showcase his virtuosity with taan and his command of the art of traditional Punjabi music. All three Heer brothers are behind the formulation of Punjabi Virsa shows all over the world. These shows have become internationally famous. Also a talented composer, Kamal Heer has collaborated with his brother Sangtar to write music for their brother Waris. Career Kamal Heer was born in the village of Halluwal, Punjab, India. He learned music from Ustaad Jaswant Singh Bhanwra. After Kamal's family moved to Canada in 1990, he and his older brother Sangtar started composing music. Manmohan Waris
Manmohan Waris (born 3 August 1967) is an Indian Punjabi folk/pop singer. He is the elder brother of record producer Sangtar and singer Kamal Heer. Waris is considered one of the most gifted singers of Punjabi folk music. Career Manmohan Waris was born in Halluwal, Punjab, India, the eldest son of Dilbag Singh. He started training in music aged 11, passing on what he learnt to his younger brothers. He moved to Canada in 1990, with Waris releasing his first album ''Gairan Naal Peenghan Jhootdeye'' in 1993. He signed with Tips Music and released the album ''Husn Da Jadu'' with them in 2000, before starting his own record label, Plasma Records with his brothers, Kamal Heer and Sangtar. He has released the majority of his music on this label. In 2004 Waris released ''Nachiye Majajne'', the same year touring in the Punjabi Virsa 2004 tour. Oswald Heer
Oswald Heer (or Oswald von Heer) (31 August 1809 – 27 September 1883), Swiss geologist and naturalist, was born at Niederuzwil in Canton of St. Gallen and died in Lausanne. Biography Oswald Heer was educated as a clergyman at Halle and took holy orders, and he also graduated as Doctor of Philosophy and medicine. Early in life his interest was aroused in entomology, on which subject he acquired special knowledge, and later he took up the study of plants and became one of the pioneers in paleobotany, distinguished for his researches on the Miocene flora. In 1837, Carl Daniel Friedrich Meissner (1800–1874) a Swiss botanist named a genus of flowering plants (in the family of Anacardiaceae) from South Africa after him, '' Heeria''. In 1851, Heer became professor of botany in the university of Zürich, and for some time he was the director of what is now the Old Botanical Garden in that city. "Heer" (Urdu: ہیر, literal English translation: "pure") is an instrumental song by the Pakistani sufi rock band Junoon. The instrumental was first released on the band's self-titled debut album, '' Junoon'' released in 1991 and later in the fourth studio album, '' Azadi'' released in 1997. The instrumental is composed by the band's lead guitarist Salman Ahmad. The instrumental uses blending of rock guitars and bluesy vocals with eastern elements like the use of tablas, raga-inspired melodies and traditional Pakistani folk music. In concerts, the song has been frequently performed by Junoon as an intro to their song "Heeray". The music video of the instrumental single is based on the famous poem ''Heer Ranjha'' by Waris Shah, it is also one of the popular tragic romances of the Punjab.
