A lance is a spear designed to be used by a mounted warrior or cavalry soldier (lancer). In ancient and medieval warfare, it evolved into the leading weapon in cavalry charges, and was unsuited for throwing or for repeated thrusting, unlike similar weapons of the javelin and pike family typically used by infantry. Lances were often equipped with a vamplate, a small circular plate to prevent the hand sliding up the shaft upon impact, and beginning in the late 14th century were used in conjunction with a lance rest attached to the breastplate. Though best known as a military and sporting weapon carried by European knights and men-at-arms, the use of lances was widespread throughout Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa wherever suitable mounts were available. Constanza Hool
Constanza Hool (6 December 1925 – 20 July 2008) was a dancer, actress and choreographer. She is credited as co-founder of the famous Ballet Folklorico de Mexico (with Amalia Hernández). She was the first woman to dance in the Taj Mahal (for Prime Minister Indira Gandhi), the Parthenon and the Santa Prisca, basilica of Santa Prisca. She had a television show in Mexico for 17 years and is reported to have been awarded the Silver Goddess (Diosa de Plata), a Mexican film and television award, 14 years in a row for best choreographer. Sonny Hool
Nathan Bernard "Sonny" Hool (28 January 1924 – 10 October 1988) was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and Left-arm orthodox spin bowler, he played fourteen times for the Ireland cricket team between 1947 and 1961, including nine first-class matches. Playing career Hool made his debut for Ireland against Scotland in May 1947 in a first-class match. Whilst it was an unsuccessful match with the bat, scoring a duck in each innings, he was successful with the ball in the Scottish second innings, taking 5/73 with his left-arm spin. He continued the year with matches against Yorkshire, the Craven Gentlemen and Derbyshire before a match at Lord's against the MCC where he took 5/19 in the only MCC innings, his best bowling figures for Ireland. He played just four times over the following three years, against Scotland and the MCC in 1948, against Yorkshire in July 1949 and against Nottinghamshire in July 1950 before spending four years out of the Ireland team.
