Clube Atlético Mineiro, also known simply as Atlético Mineiro or Atlético, is a club from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The club's history starts in its founding, in 1908, up to present day. The team was founded on 25 March 25, 1908 by twenty-two students from Belo Horizonte, led by Margival Mendes Leal and Mário Toledo. Since 1915, the club has competed in the Campeonato Mineiro, the state league of Minas Gerais, which it has won a record 43 times. In 1937, the club won its first title at national level, the Copa dos Campeões Estaduais. In 1950, Atlético went into a European tour, an important event in the club's history and, at the time, for Brazilian football itself. The Estádio Presidente Antônio Carlos, commonly known as Estádio de Lourdes and colloquially as Estadinho da Colina ("Hill's Small Stadium") was a stadium located in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, owned by Atlético Mineiro. The ground, opened in the Lourdes neighborhood on 30 May 1929, had an estimated capacity of 5,000 and was Atlético's home until 1950. Mário De Castro
Mário de Castro (30 June 1905 – 29 April 1998) was a Brazilian footballer who played as forward. He spent his entire career at Atlético Mineiro, with whom he won three Campeonato Mineiro titles, a competition of which he was top goalscorer twice. Mário de Castro was the first Atlético Mineiro player to be called up for the Brazil national football team, and scored 195 goals in 100 matches for the club. The Brazilian states football championships are the professional adult male soccer competitions in Brazil that take place between January and April for the Northeast, Central-West, Southeast and South regions. In some states from the North Region, however, it takes place in May or June. América Futebol Clube (also known as América Mineiro, Coelho or simply América) is a Brazilian football team from the city of Belo Horizonte, capital city of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
