Sutarmidji
Sutarmidji (born 29 January 1962) is an Indonesian politician and academician who is the 9th governor of West Kalimantan and formerly the mayor of its capital, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Pontianak. Starting his political career in 1981, he taught at Tanjungpura University, became a member of Pontianak's city council and served as deputy mayor before elected mayor in 2008 and again in 2013. Background Sutarmidji was born in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Pontianak on 29 January 1962. He was the sixth child of nine, and his parents' names were Tahir Abubakar and Djaedah. His father used to be active in Masyumi and had worked in the Ministry of Religious Affairs. As a child, he used to be a newspaper hawker close to the mayor's office. Soedjiman
Soedjiman (1 July 1928 – 3 December 2014) was an Indonesian military officer and politician who served as the governor of West Kalimantan from 1977 until 1988. Early life and education Soedjiman was born on 1 July 1928 in the Bantul area of the Yogyakarta Sultanate, which at that time was part of the Dutch East Indies. He went to study at the Standard School – a second-class elementary school in Dutch East Indies – and graduated from the school in 1940. After he graduated from the Standard School, he continued his education at the ''Schakelschool,'' which he finished in 1942, and at the Junior Advanced School (equivalent to Junior High School), which he finished in 1944. Subsequently, he enrolled at a carpentry high school for a year until 1945. 2018 West Kalimantan Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 West Kalimantan gubernatorial election took place on 27 June 2018 as part of the 2018 Indonesian local elections, simultaneous local elections. It was held to elect the governor of West Kalimantan along with their deputy, whilst members of the provincial council (''Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah'') will be re-elected in 2019 Indonesian general election, 2019. With incumbent Cornelis M.H. barred after serving two full terms, the election was contested by three pairs of candidates: Pontianak mayor Sutarmidji, Landak Regency, Landak regent Karolin Margret Natasa and former regent of Sintang Regency, Sintang Milton Crosby. The election resulted in victory for Sutarmidji, who secured 51.5 percent of the votes. Karolin came in second with 41.8 percent while Milton won less than 7 percent of votes. Usman Jafar (10 September 1951 – 15 May 2015) was an Indonesian politician and businessman who served as the Governor of West Kalimantan between 2003 and 2008, and as a member of the People's Representative Council from 2009 until his death in 2015. Aspar Aswin (13 April 1940 – 19 December 2007) was an Indonesian politician and military officer who served two terms as Governor of West Kalimantan between 1993 and 2003 and was also Vice Governor of Bali. His second term as governor occurred during the early Reform era, which saw significant ethnic tensions in West Kalimantan and attempts to remove him from power.
