The governor of Jharkhand is a nominal head of the Indian state of Jharkhand and permanent representative of president of India. The governor is appointed by the president of India for a five-year term. Raj Bhavan in Ranchi serves as the official residence. Since 14 July 2021, the governor of Jharkhand is Ramesh Bais. Powers and functions The governor enjoys many different types of powers: * Executive powers related to administration, appointments and removals, * Legislative powers related to lawmaking and the state legislature, that is Vidhan Sabha or Vidhan Parishad, and * Discretionary powers to be carried out according to the discretion of the governor. Droupadi Murmu
Droupadi Murmu (, born 20 June 1958) is an Indian politician who has been serving as the 15th president of India since 25 July 2022. She is the first person belonging to the tribal community and also the second woman after Pratibha Patil to hold the office. She is also the youngest person to occupy the post and the first President born in Independent India. Prior to her presidency she served as the ninth governor of Jharkhand between 2015 and 2021, and held various portfolios in the cabinet of Government of Odisha between 2000 and 2004. Before entering politics, she worked as a clerk in the State Irrigation and Power Department from 1979 to 1983, and then as a teacher in Rairangpur until 1997. Ved Marwah
Ved Prakash Marwah (15 September 1934 – 5 June 2020) was an Indian police officer, who after retirement, served as governor of Manipur, Mizoram and Jharkhand. He died at Goa at the age of 87 after a three-week hospitalisation. Early life He was born and raised in Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province, British India. The son of Faqirchand Marwah, he immigrated to the Union of India after the Partition of India. He completed his education at St. Stephens College, where he served as President of the Alumni Association. He also completed a diploma in Public Administration from the University of Manchester, UK. Ranchi University is a public state university in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. It was established in 1960 by an Act of the Bihar legislature. Ranchi University offers degrees in undergraduate, post-graduate, M.Phil. and doctorate programs. The governors of the states of India have similar powers and functions at the state level as those of the president of India at the central level. Governors exist in the states, while lieutenant governors exist in union territories including the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. The governor acts as the nominal head whereas the real power lies with the chief ministers of the states and his or her councils of ministers. Syed Ahmed (politician)
Syed Ahmed (6 March 1943 – 27 September 2015) was an Indian politician, author and a member of the Congress Party. He was sworn in as the Governor of Manipur on 16 May 2015, but only served four months before dying in office on 27 September. During his short tenure as governor, the Manipur Tenants, Visitors and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015 was passed by the Manipur Assembly on 15 March. He died of cancer on 27 September 2015 at Lilavati Hospital Bandra, Mumbai, India at the age of 72 whilst in office as a state governor.
