Flag Of Mauritius
The national flag of Mauritius, also known as the Four Bands and ''Les Quatre Bandes'' ( French for "the four bands"), was adopted upon independence, March 12, 1968. It consists of four horizontal bands of equal width, coloured (from top to bottom) red, blue, yellow, and green. The flag was recorded at the College of Arms in London on 9 January 1968. The flag was designed by Gurudutt Moher whose contribution was recognised posthumously in March 2018 in the form of the national title ''Member of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean'' (MSK). Sir Cassam Ismael Moollan, QC (26 February 1927 – 15 November 2010) was the acting governor-general of Mauritius from 15 December 1985 until 17 January 1986. As chief justice of Mauritius at the time, he assumed the position immediately after the death of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam until a successor could be appointed. He was knighted in 1982. Early life He was educated at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and earned his LLB in 1950. He was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn the following year. Returning to Mauritius, he practised as a lawyer from 1951 to 1955. He was a Magistrate (1955–58), Crown Counsel (1958–64), and Senior Crown Counsel (1964–66). He was elevated to Solicitor General in 1966. In 1969, a year before his appointment as Puisne Judge, the Supreme Court, he was made Queen's Counsel (QC). Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (in traditional Hindi: Shivsagar Ram Gulam) (18 September 1900 – 15 December 1985; often referred to as ''Chacha Ramgoolam'' or ''SSR'') was a Mauritian physician, politician, and statesman. He served as the island's only chief minister, first prime minister, and fifth governor-general. Sir Dayendranath Burrenchobay, KBE, CMG, CVO, GCSK, (24 March 1919 – 29 March 1999) was born in Plaine Magnien, Mauritius and served as the fourth governor-general of Mauritius. Early life and education Dayendranath Burrenchobay grew up in Cemetery Road, Plaine Magnien. He travelled to London, England to further his education. Later he graduated from Imperial College, London. Career After graduating from Imperial College, London he worked for the British Electricity Authority. On his return to Mauritius he joined the Civil Service as a teacher. He eventually became Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Education & Cultural Affairs (1964-1967). Henry Garrioch
Sir (William) Henry Garrioch (4 May 1916 – 18 February 2008) was the acting governor-general of Mauritius from 31 October 1977 until 23 March 1978. Legal career Garrioch joined the Colonial Service in 1936 and was subsequently appointed a First Grade Clerk in 1946, when he was picked to be a judge's secretary. He became the secretary of Justice Georges Espitalier-Noël, who was able to persuade Chief Justice Sir Francis Herchenroder that Garrioch should be encouraged to embrace a legal career. Garrioch took the advice and won the Colonial Scholarship enabling him to complete his studies in law in the United Kingdom. He was called to the Bar at Gray's Inn and to the Mauritian Bar in 1952.
