Global News
Global News is the news and current affairs division of the Canadian Global Television Network. The network is owned by Corus Entertainment, which oversees all of the network's national news programming as well as local news on its 21 owned-and-operated stations. Corus also operates several talk radio stations under the "Global News Radio" brand. The same division also operates a news website under the same brand. Global Television Network
The Global Television Network (more commonly called Global, or occasionally Global TV) is a Canadian English-language terrestrial television network. It is currently Canada's second most-watched private terrestrial television network after CTV, and has fifteen owned-and-operated stations throughout the country. Global is owned by Corus Entertainment — the media holdings of JR Shaw and other members of his family. Global has its origins in a regional television station of the same name, serving Southern Ontario, which launched in 1974. The Ontario station was soon purchased by the now-defunct CanWest Global Communications, and that company gradually expanded its national reach in the subsequent decades through both acquisitions and new station launches, building up a quasi-network of independent stations, known as the CanWest Global System, until the stations were unified under the Ontario station's branding in 1997. Kevin Newman (Canadian Journalist)
Kevin Newman (born June 2, 1959) is a Canadian journalist and news anchor. From 2001 to 2010, he was the chief anchor and executive editor of '' Global National''. In August 2014, he became a substitute anchor of '' CTV National News with Lisa LaFlamme'' and in September 2016 was named host and managing editor of the weekly Investigative program '' W5''. He is co-author of ''All Out'', a memoir written with his son Alex. Life and career Newman was born in Toronto, Ontario. He began his career in broadcasting at CHRW radio in London, Ontario, becoming the first news director and working on Western Mustangs football broadcasts as the campus station of the University of Western Ontario formally organized. A specialty channel (also known in the United States as a cable channel or cable network) can be a commercial broadcasting or non-commercial television channel which consists of television programming focused on a single genre, subject or targeted television market at a specific demographic. Local Programs
The terms local programme, local programming, local content or local television refers to a television program made by a television station or independent television producer for broadcast only within the station's transmission area or television market. Local programmes can encompass the whole range of programme genres but will usually only cover subjects or people of particular interest to an audience within the station's coverage area. For example, a local sports programme will present results, interviews and coverage of games or matches, just like a network sports programme, but it would only feature teams and players from within the broadcaster's transmission area. In some cases a television network programme may include a local element as well. This is particularly the case in the United Kingdom and still happens today with The Politics Show. CIII-DT (channel 41) is a television station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, serving as the flagship station of the Global Television Network. Owned and operated by network parent Corus Entertainment, CIII-DT maintains studios at 81 Barber Greene Road (near Leslie Street) in the Don Mills district of Toronto, and its transmitter is located atop the CN Tower in downtown Toronto. Shaw Multicultural Channel
Shaw Multicultural Channel (or simply Shaw Multicultural) is a Canadian ethnic cable television community channel, offering programming in 20 different languages. It is owned and operated by Shaw Communications, and is available on cable systems in Vancouver and Calgary regional markets. The channel operates on cable channel 4 in the Greater Vancouver region, on cable channel 10 in the Calgary Region and on Shaw BlueCurve TV channel 901 in those regions. The channel was launched in 1979 as Rogers Multicultural Channel, under the ownership of Rogers Communications, and was available only in the Vancouver market on Rogers Cable. Robin Gill (journalist)
Robin Gill (born May 12, 1978) is a Canadian journalist who was the weekend anchor for ''Global National'' and B.C. correspondent from 2008 to 2021. She has also worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and from BCIT she earned a diploma in broadcast journalism. Gill began her career as a writer and researcher for CHAN-TV. Her next position required her to move to Saskatchewan for a job reporting and anchoring for CTV Yorkton. From Saskatchewan she then began reporting for the CBC in Vancouver. She helped launch A-Channel, a new station in Calgary (now Citytv), where she hosted both the morning show and reported for the evening news.
