Four Funnel Liner
A four-funnel liner, also known as a four-stacker, is an ocean liner with four funnels. , launched in 1897, was the first ocean liner to have four funnels and was one of the first of the golden era of ocean liners that became prominent in the 20th century. Among the most well known four-funnels are , sunk on her maiden voyage on , and , torpedoed on , during the First World War. In all, 15 four-funnel liners were produced; '' Great Eastern'' in 1858, and the remainder between 1897 and 1922. Four were sunk during the World Wars, and all others besides ''Titanic'' were scrapped. was the fastest of all four-funnelled liners. SS ''America'' was an ocean liner and cruise ship American Built Passenger Liners, built in the United States in 1940, for the United States Lines and designed by the noted American naval architect William Francis Gibbs. It carried many names in the 54 years between its construction and its 1994 wreck: Steam Ship, SS ''America'' (carrying this name three different times during its career); troop transport USS ''West Point''; and SS ''Australis'', ''Italis'', ''Noga'', ''Alferdoss'', and ''American Star''. It served most notably in passenger service as ''America'' and the Greek-flagged ''Australis''. SS Kaiser Wilhelm II
The second SS ''Kaiser Wilhelm II'', named for the German Emperor, was a 19,361- gross register ton passenger ship built at Stettin, Germany (now Szczecin, Poland). The ship was completed in the spring of 1903. At the time of her launch she was larger by 1,900 tons than any other German ship and was surpassed in the weight of her hull and machinery only by the British liners ''RMS Cedric'' and ''RMS Celtic''. SS ''Deutschland'' was a passenger liner built in Szczecin, Stettin and launched in 1900 by the Hamburg America Line of Germany.
