The Case of Carlos Fariña was an event that took place during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile. It began on 13 October 1973, when a contingent formed by two police (''carabineros'') officers, four military personnel and two civilians, stopped, kidnapped, and abducted Carlos Patricio Fariña Oyarce, a 13-year-old. He would become the youngest victim in the list of 79 under-age minors killed for political motives during the military regime. Jorge Leonardo Fariña (born 5 October 1986) is an Argentine who was implicated in the political scandal known as "the K money trail" involving entrepreneur Lázaro Báez. Until Fariña became the target of a probe into money laundering in 2013, he was known to the Argentine public chiefly as the husband of famous model Karina Jelinek, who separated from him after the scandal broke. Luis Carlos Fariña Olivera (born 20 April 1991) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Paraguayan Primera División club Club Guaraní. Margarita Mimi Baez Fariña (April 30, 1945 – July 18, 2001) was an American singer-songwriter and activist, the youngest of three daughters to a Scottish mother and Mexican-American physicist Albert Baez. She was the younger sister of the singer and activist Joan Baez. Richard George Fariña (Spanish IPA: ) (March 8, 1937 – April 30, 1966) was an American folksinger, songwriter, poet and novelist. Early years and education Fariña was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States, the son of an Irish mother, Theresa Crozier, and a Cuban father of Galician origin, also named Richard Fariña. He grew up in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn Technical High School. He earned an academic scholarship to Cornell University, starting as an engineering major, but later switching to English. While at Cornell he published short stories for local literary magazines and for national periodicals, including ''Transatlantic Review'' and '' Mademoiselle''. Fariña became good friends with Thomas Pynchon, David Shetzline, and Peter Yarrow while at Cornell.
