Frater House
North American fraternity and sorority housing refers largely to the houses or housing areas in which fraternity and sorority members live and work together. In addition to serving as housing, fraternity and sorority housing may also serve to host social gatherings, meetings, and functions that benefit the community. History The first fraternity house seems to have been located at Alpha Epsilon of Chi Psi at the University of Michigan around 1846. As fraternity membership was punishable by expulsion at many colleges at this time, the house was located deep in the woods. Fraternity chapter housing initially existed in two forms: lodges that served as meeting rooms and houses that had boarding rooms. Psi Omega () is an international professional fraternity for Dentistry. It was founded on June 8, 1892, ''"to maintain the standards of the profession, to encourage scientific investigation and literary culture."'' Psi Omega is the third professional dental fraternity to be formed, following Delta Sigma Delta (1882) and Xi Psi Phi (1889), and pre-dating Alpha Omega (1907). Psi Omega has 27 active chapters. Alexander Russell Frater (3 January 1937 – 1 January 2020) was a British travel writer and journalist. Described by Miles Kington as 'the funniest man who wrote for ''Punch'' since the war', Frater is best known for his various books and for documentaries he wrote and produced for the BBC and ABC. Early life Frater was born in a small mission hospital in Port Vila, Vanuatu, in the middle of a monsoon. His grandfather and his father were Scottish Presbyterian missionaries in Vanuatu. His grandfather Maurice was based on the island of Paama, which had previously been hostile to all outsiders, from 1900-1939. His father Alec, who became a doctor, established a hospital on the island of Iririki, offshore from Parliament House in Port Vila, training local staff in the treatment of tropical diseases. Kevaughn Frater (born 14 December 1994) is a Jamaican footballer who plays as a forward for USL Championship club New Mexico United. Club career Frater was part of the Harbour View squad since he was sixteen years old, before signing on loan with United Soccer League side Real Monarchs SLC in January 2016. A refectory (also frater, frater house, fratery) is a dining room, especially in monasteries, boarding schools and academic institutions. One of the places the term is most often used today is in graduate seminaries. The name derives from the Latin ''reficere'' "to remake or restore," via Late Latin ''refectorium'', which means "a place one goes to be restored" (''cf.'' "restaurant").
