Football In Bermuda
Association football is one of the biggest sports in Bermuda, along with the sport of cricket. The sport was brought to Bermuda by the British. It is governed by the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) and is a full-member of FIFA, CONCACAF and the Caribbean Football Union. The BFA organizes the Bermuda national football team. Today Bermuda's top domestic league is the Bermudian Premier Division. History of Bermudian football The game of football was brought to the island by British in the early 1900s. In 1928 the national federation, the Bermuda Football Association, was founded, although it took the federation 34 years before getting affiliation with FIFA and CONCACAF. In 1963 the federation started the Bermudian Premier Division which is to be the top division of Bermudan Football and still is today. Clyde Cyril Best, Order of the British Empire, MBE (born 24 February 1951) is a Bermudian former Association football, football player. He was one of the first Black people, black players in Football League First Division, First Division football in England, scoring 47 goals as a Forward (association football), striker for West Ham United F.C., West Ham United between 1968 and 1976. Early and personal life Best moved from Bermuda to England at the age of 17, to play for West Ham United F.C., West Ham United. Upon his arrival he was looked after by club captain Bobby Moore. Leonard Shaun Goater, Order of the British Empire, MBE (born 25 February 1970) is a Bermuda, Bermudian former professional Association football, footballer, coach and pundit, he currently works as a youth coach at Manchester City F.C., Manchester City. As a player he was a Forward (association football), striker for a number of English clubs in the 1990s and 2000s. Goater's first professional club was Manchester United F.C., Manchester United, but he did not reach the first team, making his League debut in 1989 after moving to Rotherham United F.C., Rotherham United. Gibraltar National Football Team
The Gibraltar national football team represents Gibraltar in international football competitions, and is controlled by the Gibraltar Football Association. Gibraltar applied for full UEFA membership and was accepted by the UEFA Congress in May 2013. It can therefore compete in the UEFA European Championship starting with the 2016 tournament for which the team competed in UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying Group D. On 13 May 2016 Gibraltar became a member of FIFA at the governing body's 66th Congress which was held in Mexico City. Football At The Pan American Games
Football (soccer) at the Pan American Games has been included in every Pan American Games as a men's competition sport, since the first edition of the multi-sports event in 1951. The competition is organized by the Pan American Sports Organization. So as to avoid competition with the World Cup, FIFA have restricted participation of elite players in the men's tournament in various ways. Currently squads for the men's tournament are required to be composed of players under 22 years of age. The tournament was played in league format from 1951 to 1963, neither final nor bronze medal match hosted. Another format was used in 1971, this time the tournament was played in group format in early stages, but played in league format for final stages. CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield
The Caribbean Club Shield, also known as the CFU Club Shield, was an annual Caribbean football competition for clubs that were members of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). It was a second-tier competition to the Caribbean Club Championship, and was introduced in 2018 for clubs which worked towards professional standards. It was ran by CONCACAF and was known as the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield. The winner of this competition, as long as it fulfills the CONCACAF Regional Club Licensing criteria, played against the fourth-placed team of the Caribbean Club Championship for the place in the CONCACAF League. United Soccer League (1984–85)
The United Soccer League was a professional soccer league in the United States in the mid-1980s. History As the second incarnation of the American Soccer League was crumbling, five of the eight ASL teams (Carolina Lightnin', renamed the Charlotte Gold, Dallas Americans, Jacksonville Tea Men, Oklahoma City Slickers, renamed Stampede, and Rochester Flash) left to founded the USL. They also took the ASL's commissioner, William Burfeind, with them as their first commissioner. Fiscal responsibility, regional rivalries and measured expansion were a few of the cornerstones on which the organization was to be structured. USL League Two (USL2), formerly the Premier Development League (PDL), is a semi-professional developmental soccer league sponsored by United Soccer Leagues in the United States and Canada, forming part of the United States soccer league system. The league features 113 teams for 2022, split into sixteen regional divisions across four conferences. USL League Two is headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
