Energy In Ireland
Ireland is a net energy importer. Ireland's import dependency decreased to 85% in 2014 (from 89% in 2013). The cost of all energy imports to Ireland was approximately €5.7 billion, down from €6.5 billion (revised) in 2013 due mainly to falling oil and, to a lesser extent, gas import prices. Consumption of all fuels fell in 2014 with the exception of peat, renewables and non-renewable wastes. Final consumption of electricity in 2017 was 26 TWh, a 1.1% increase on the previous year. Renewable electricity generation, consisting of wind, hydro, landfill gas, biomass and biogas, accounted for 30.1% of gross electricity consumption. In 2019, it was 31 TWh with renewables accounting for 37.6% of consumption. Energy-related emissions decreased by 2.1% in 2017 to a level 17% above 1990 levels. Energy-related emissions were 18% below 2005 levels. 60% of Irish greenhouse gas emissions are caused by energy consumption. Historical Data Electricity Final consumption of el ...

Energy Mix Of Ireland
In physics, energy (from Ancient Greek: wikt:ἐνέργεια#Ancient_Greek, ἐνέργεια, ''enérgeia'', “activity”) is the physical quantity, quantitative physical property, property that is #Energy transfer, transferred to a physical body, body or to a physical system, recognizable in the performance of Work (thermodynamics), work and in the form of heat and light. Energy is a Conservation law, conserved quantity—the law of conservation of energy states that energy can be Energy transformation, converted in form, but not created or destroyed. The unit of measurement for energy in the International System of Units (SI) is the joule (J). Common forms of energy include the kinetic energy of a moving object, the potential energy stored by an object (for instance due to its position in a Classical field theory, field), the elastic energy stored in a solid object, chemical energy associated with chemical reactions, the radiant energy carried by electromagnetic radiat ...

Tonne Of Oil Equivalent
The tonne of oil equivalent (toe) is a unit of energy defined as the amount of energy released by burning one tonne of crude oil. It is approximately 42 gigajoules or 11.630 megawatt-hours, although as different crude oils have different calorific values, the exact value is defined by convention; several slightly different definitions exist. The ''toe'' is sometimes used for large amounts of energy. Multiples of the ''toe'' are used, in particular the megatoe (Mtoe, one million toe) and the gigatoe (Gtoe, one billion toe). A smaller unit of kilogram of oil equivalent (kgoe or koe) is also sometimes used denoting 1/1000 toe. Definitions The International Energy Agency defines one '' tonne of oil equivalent'' (toe) to be equal to: *1 toe = 11.63 megawatt-hours (MWh) *1 toe = 41.868 gigajoules (GJ) *1 toe = 10 gigacalories (Gcal) – *1 toe = 39,683,207.2 British thermal units (BTU) *1 toe = 1.42857143 tonnes of coal equivalent (tce) Conversion into other units: *1 toe = 7.33 ...

Moneypoint Power Station
Moneypoint power station () is Ireland's largest electricity generation station (output 915 MW) and only coal-fired power station. Commissioned between 1985 and 1987, it is located on the River Shannon near Kilrush, County Clare. It was constructed at a cost of more than £700m in one of the largest capital projects in the history of the state. The station operates largely on coal, making it both unique in the context of Irish electricity production and the country's single largest emitter of greenhouse gases. It is capable of meeting around 25% of customer demand across the country. It has two Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) storage tanks with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes which can be used as a back-up fuel if required. Three Brown Boveri four-cylinder, single-shaft impulse reaction turbines are directly connected to three generators which generate the power. The steam is generated by three Foster Wheeler two-pass boilers, which convert water into high pressure steam by combustion of t ...

West Offaly Power Station
The West Offaly Power Station was a large peat-fired 135 MW power station in Shannonbridge from 2005 to 2020, in the Republic of Ireland. The station was capable of generating up to of power, thus ranking as the largest peat-fired power station in the country. The power station was constructed adjacent to (and as a replacement of) the ageing peat Shannonbridge Power Station, which operated in stages from 1965 to 2003, and demolished in 2005. The Station directly employed approx forty full-time with additional contract and part-time staff. The Station further supports employment in the Semi State Bord na Móna which supplied West Offaly with milled peat from the surrounding bogs. As part of its social employment mandate, the station received Public service obligation support until 2019. On 11 December 2020 the station ceased all power production after permission to continue burning peat was refused. Although local groups and leaders hoped that the plant would be converted to ...
