Electoral District Of Indooroopilly
Indooroopilly was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1992 to 2017. The district was based in the western suburbs of Brisbane, and straddled both sides of the Brisbane River. It was named for the suburb of Indooroopilly and also included the suburbs of Chelmer, Fig Tree Pocket, Graceville, Sherwood, St Lucia and Taringa. After a redistribution in 2008 it included parts of Tennyson. It was first created for the 1992 election. Indooroopilly was a marginal seat, having been won narrowly by Labor in three elections between 2001 and 2006. Indooroopilly is a riverside suburb 7km west of the Brisbane CBD, Queensland, Australia. In the , Indooroopilly had a population of 12,242 people. Geography Indooroopilly is bounded to the south and south-east by the median of the Brisbane River. Indooroopilly is connected to Chelmer on the southern bank of the river by four bridges, consisting (from east to west) of a pedestrian/cycling bridge (Jack Pesch Bridge), two rail bridges ( Albert Bridge and Indooroopilly Railway Bridge), and one road bridge (Walter Taylor Bridge, ). Ronan Oliver Lee (born 4 January 1976) is an Irish Australian former politician and research fellow in the at . He was previously a visiting scholar at Queen Mary University of London's International State Crime Initiative. His research focusses on Myanmar, the Rohingya, genocide, and hate speech. He was formerly a political advisor and Labor and later Green Party member of the Queensland State Parliament. Maiwar is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland, incorporating the inner western suburbs of Brisbane. It was created in the 2017 redistribution, and was first contested at the 2017 Queensland state election. The electorate name is stated by the Government as being named based on an aboriginal name of the Brisbane River, however it is not the name that the Turrbal people who lived in the Brisbane region had for the river. The Brisbane River forms the southern boundary of the electorate. It largely replaces areas of the abolished districts of Mount Coot-tha and Indooroopilly, north of the Brisbane River.
