Electoral District Of Balonne
Balonne was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1932, and again from 1950 to 1992. It was named after the Balonne River. Balonne was generally centered on the inland rural towns of St George and Dirranbandi. Balonne was abolished in the 1991 redistribution, and was distributed between the new electorate of Western Downs and the existing district of Warrego. Balonne River
The Balonne River, part of the Murray-Darling Basin system, is a short yet significant part of the inland river group of South West Queensland, Australia. Course and features The river is a continuation of the Condamine River. After flowing through Surat the river flows south south-westerly down through the E.J. Beardmore Dam (Lake Kajarabie). Passing through St George it continues in the same south-west direction, until about north of Dirranbandi, where it branches, with the western branch then being called the Culgoa River. The eastern branch continues on as the Balonne River through Dirranbandi. Shortly after flowing through Dirranbandi, the Balonne River again branches into the Bokhara River on the west side (the right side when going down stream) and the Narran River on the eastern (left) side. Samuel Brassington
Samuel John Brassington (6 May 1901 – 4 October 1950) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, serving as the member for Balonne from 1927 to 1932 and for Fortitude Valley from 1933 to 1950. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1944 to 1950. Don Neal
Donald McConnell Neal (born 31 May 1939) was an Australian politician. He was born in Jandowae, Queensland to Donald McKenzie Neal and Christina Elizabeth, ''née'' Schutt. After attending Cabawin State School and Brisbane Technical College, he became a wool classer and grazier. On 5 September 1964 he married Frances Lillian Nelson, with whom he had six children.
