Economy Picking
Economy picking is a guitar picking technique designed to maximize picking efficiency by combining alternate picking and sweep picking; it may also incorporate the use of legato in the middle of alternate picking passages as way to achieve higher speed with less pick strokes. Specifically: * When picking multiple notes on a string, alternate picking (alternating between down-strokes and upstrokes) is used. * When changing to a new string, sweep picking (picking in the direction of travel: down-stroke if moving down or upstroke when moving up) is used. * When playing a lick, scale or pattern that would require alternate strokes or sweeps, but a few notes are spared with the use of legato. Django Reinhardt
Jean Reinhardt (23 January 1910 – 16 May 1953), known by his Romani nickname Django ( or ), was a Romani-French jazz guitarist and composer. He was one of the first major jazz talents to emerge in Europe and has been hailed as one of its most significant exponents. With violinist Stéphane Grappelli, Reinhardt formed the Paris-based Quintette du Hot Club de France in 1934. The group was among the first to play jazz that featured the guitar as a lead instrument. Reinhardt recorded in France with many visiting American musicians, including Coleman Hawkins and Benny Carter, and briefly toured the United States with Duke Ellington's orchestra in 1946. He died suddenly of a stroke in 1953 at the age of 43. Gypsy Jazz
Gypsy jazz (also known as gypsy swing, jazz manouche or hot club-style jazz) is a style of small-group jazz originating from the Romani guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt (1910–53), in conjunction with the French swing violinist Stéphane Grappelli (1908–97), as expressed in their group the Quintette du Hot Club de France. Because its origins are in France, Reinhardt was from the Manouche (French Sinti) clan, and the style has remained popular amongst the Manouche, gypsy jazz is often called by the French name "jazz manouche", or alternatively, "manouche jazz" in English language sources. Jason Richardson (musician)
Jason Richardson (born July 30, 1991) is an American guitarist. He is best known for his work as a guitarist in both Born of Osiris and Chelsea Grin. His playing style is extremely fast and technical. He currently works as both a solo artist and as an official member of All That Remains. He is also a sponsored artist of Ernie Ball Music Man. On February 5, 2009, age 17, Richardson replaced Chris Storey of All Shall Perish as a touring member. In early 2010, Richardson left All Shall Perish and was asked to join Born of Osiris as a full-time guitarist. In late 2011, Richardson parted ways with Born of Osiris. Then, in early 2012, he joined Chelsea Grin. On September 21, 2015, Richardson chose to leave Chelsea Grin and form his own solo project. String Skipping
String skipping is a guitar-playing technique that is used mainly for solos and complex riffs in rock and heavy metal songs. Explanation of technique String skipping is a method of achieving a guitar sound that is different from more traditional solo riff styles. In more traditional styles, the guitarist will often play several notes on one string, then move to the adjacent one, improvising on the fretboard in a melodically linear manner. In string skipping (as the name implies), a string is often skipped during the riff. Essentially, this technique is used to introduce larger intervals than are usually common in guitar melodies, thereby creating melodic interest.
