Electoral District Of Mourilyan
Mourilyan was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1950 to 1992. First created for the 1950 state election, the district was based in north Queensland, centred on the town of Mourilyan, taking in areas previously belonging to the abolished district of Herbert. Mourilyan was abolished by the 1991 redistribution, necessitated by the one vote one value reforms, taking effect at the 1992 state election. Its territory was divided between the neighbouring districts of Hinchinbrook and Tablelands. Mourilyan, Queensland
Mourilyan is a town and locality in the Cassowary Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It was established around the Mourilyan sugar mill which provided much of the employment in the area until it was destroyed by Cyclone Larry on 20 March 2006. In the , Mourilyan had a population of 571 people. Geography The town is located south of Innisfail on the Bruce Highway. History Construction of the Mourilyan sugar mill began in 1882, rendering it among the oldest in Australia. Excavation of the site was undertaken mainly by Kanakas, with assistance from Chinese and Anglo-Saxon labourers. After its completion in 1884, the mill had a processing capacity of 14 tonnes of sugar per 12-hour shift. In 1913, the Colonial Sugar Refining Company (now CSR) began purchasing sugar refined at the mill. Mourilyan remained a small settlement, growing only very slowly since. Peter Moore (Queensland Politician)
Francis Peter Moore (born 9 March 1938) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Moore was born at Mareeba, Queensland, the son of Charles Moore and his wife Mary Amelia (née McDowall). He was educated at the St Thomas's Convent, Mareeba, St Theresa's Agricultural College, Abergowrie, and St Augustine's College, Cairns before attending the University of Queensland. He became a school teacher and taught at Mareeba State School in 1957 before coming a science master, teaching at Queensland state secondary schools. In 1957 he was a National Service trainee in the Australian Army. On 2 January 1960 Moore married Elaine Maureen Martin with the marriage producing a son and a daughter. Bill Eaton (politician)
Andrew George "Bill" Eaton (29 November 1931 – 22 May 2011) was an Australian politician. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Eaton was born in Gilgandra in New South Wales to Cyril Allan Dudley Eaton and Mary Catherine, ''née'' O'Donohue. He attended Dobies Bight State School and St Mary's Convent in Casino. In 1931 he married Shirley Daw Boothman; they had four children, but Shirley died of leukaemia shortly after their fourth child's birth. Eaton worked as a labourer, fencer, timber cutter, stationhand and machinery operator, and from 1963 he was the leading hand of a live-line gang with the Far North Queensland Electricity Board. Politics In 1980, Eaton was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Mourilyan. Vicky Kippin
Victoria Anne Kippin (7 September 1942 – 24 March 2019) was an Australian politician. She was a National Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1974 to 1980, representing the district of Mourilyan. Early life Kippin was born in the north Queensland town of Ayr. Her parents were Vivian Henry Cox and Enid Parry Trower, who own a grazing property in the Burdekin district where she was raised. She attended Kalamia and Ayr state schools, St Anne's Church of England Grammar School in Townsville and Ayr High School. A foundation student at the University College of Townsville in 1961, she took on pharmacy before transferring to agricultural science in 1962, studying the subject for three years. The Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), commonly known as Queensland Labor or as just Labor inside Queensland, is the state branch of the Australian Labor Party in the state of Queensland.
