E-consultation
Electronic consultation is an aspect of telemedicine which involves remote communication between patients and clinicians, or between clinicians and specialists. E-consult was one of the earlier applications which primary care physicians could use to consult specialists. Dermatology lent itself to this approach as pictures could be sent for examination in a specialist centre in a process analogous to the well-established treatment of pathological specimens. The widespread use of electronic health records is reducing the need for specialist applications of this kind. There is developing interest in the application of such techniques in mental health. EConsult
eConsult is a medical app developed by the Hurley Group. In June 2018, the practice announced that it planned to use the eConsult online system for most consultations. This enables patients to submit their symptoms to a GP electronically, and offers round the clock NHS self-help information, signposting to services, and a symptom checker. 12 GPs are using eConsult and it is planned to recruit 12 more, so patients will only be seen in person where necessary. 340 other practices are also using eConsult, a majority of the 479 GP practices are expected to have implemented an online consultation system by April 2018. E-consult
e-consult is a mechanism developed by the Department of Veterans Affairs that enables primary care providers to obtain specialists' inputs into a patient's care treatment without requiring the patient to go to a face-to-face visit. Not to be confused with eConsult, a medical app used in England. Overview E-consult is a web-enabled system and process, where primary care clinicians and specialists are able to communicate, share clinical information and consult electronically to manage patient care. It reduces the specialty referral and appointment process to just a few days, which increases the speed delivery for patient care services. It is one of the top healthcare websites. It was founded in 1998 by internet entrepreneur Jeff Arnold. Ada Health
Ada is a health company based in Berlin that operates Ada, an end-user self-assessment Web application. It was founded by Claire Novorol, a British pediatrician, Martin Hirsch and Daniel Nathrath. History The app started out as a platform as a service for doctors and was adapted in 2016 to focus on the bits patients could understand. The app takes reported symptoms, matches them with symptoms of patients of similar age and gender, and reports the statistical likelihood that the patient has a certain condition. The Ada consumer product, the app, is currently available in English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Swahili, Romanian, and French. As of September 2020, the Ada app has been downloaded 10 million times and completed 20 million symptom assessments. It is free of charge and has the highest consumer rank among similar apps. NHS 111
111 is a free-to-call single non-emergency number medical helpline operating in England, Scotland and parts of Wales. The 111 phone service has replaced the various non-geographic 0845 rate numbers and is part of each country's National Health Service: in England the service is known as NHS 111; in Scotland, NHS 24; and in Wales, NHS 111 Wales. The transition from NHS Direct (0845 4647) to NHS 111 in England was completed during February 2014 with NHS 24 Scotland (08454 24 24 24) following during April 2014. NHS Direct Wales started a phased roll-out of a similar 111 service in late 2016 and completed it in March 2022. As of June 2018, the 111 number was not in use across Northern Ireland. Push Doctor
Push Doctor was the UK's first platform to offer video consultations with patients online and via smartphone. It is a GP provider and remote consultation enabler in the UK with a reach of 5.4 million patients. Push Doctor is a NHS-commissioned technology provider compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It made a loss of nearly £8 million in the year to 31 July 2021. It was acquired by Square Health, a provider of private digital healthcare for insurance companies and corporates, in December 2021. At that point it had about 100 staff. Livi is a digital healthcare service by Kry International AB, a Swedish online healthcare company based in Stockholm. Kry International was established in 2015 and operates as Kry in Germany, Norway and Sweden. In France and United Kingdom, the United Kingdom, it operates as Livi. In 2019, Livi recruited former NHS England's chief digital officer Juliet Bauer as its UK managing director. It launched a partnership with general practices in North West Surrey and with SSP Health in the North West of England to offer video consultations to patients in October 2018, an app based service similar to that offered by GP at Hand but done through their existing GP practice without having to re-register with a new one.
