Development Of Bugs Bunny
The character that would evolve into Bugs Bunny appeared in four cartoon shorts before his first official appearance in Tex Avery's ''A Wild Hare''. While this early version is commonly referred to as "Happy Rabbit", animation historian David Gerstein disputes this, saying that the only usage of the term was from Mel Blanc himself; the name "Bugs Bunny" was used as early as April 1938, from a model sheet made by Charles Thorson which was used for the short ''Hare-um Scare-um''. Bugs was also mentioned by name from an August 1939 review of the short in the Motion Picture Herald. Several published first person accounts, encyclopedic references, and Warner Bros.' own published material describe the inception of the name and of the character. A model sheet by Charlie Thorson describes this prototype character as "Bug's Bunny" (note the apostrophe) but in most of the cartoons the character is unnamed. Virgil Ross, the animator for ''A Wild Hare'' describes how the character came to be n ...

Bugs Bunny
Bugs Bunny is an animated cartoon character created in the late 1930s by Leon Schlesinger Productions (later Warner Bros. Cartoons) and voiced originally by Mel Blanc. Bugs is best known for his starring roles in the '' Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' series of animated short films, produced by Warner Bros. Though an early iteration of the character first appeared in the WB cartoon ''Porky's Hare Hunt'' (1938) and a few subsequent shorts, the definitive characterization of Bugs Bunny is widely credited to have debuted in Tex Avery's Oscar-nominated film ''A Wild Hare'' (1940). Bob Givens is credited for Bugs' initial character design, though Robert McKimson is credited for what became Bugs' definitive design just a few years later. Bugs is an anthropomorphic gray and white rabbit or hare who is famous for his flippant, insouciant personality. He is also characterized by a Brooklyn accent, his portrayal as a trickster, and his catch phrase "Eh...What's up, doc?". Due ...

Naughty Neighbors (film)
''Naughty Neighbors'' is a 1939 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' animated short, directed by Bob Clampett. The short was released on October 7, 1939. It features Porky Pig as the leader of the McCoy clan and Petunia Pig as the leader of the Martin clan. The script was written by Warren Foster, the main animator was Izzy Ellis, and the music director was Carl Stalling. Background Images of family feuds had become part of Folklore of the United States since the late 19th century, deriving from the depictions of actual conflicts such as the Hatfield–McCoy feud in the sensationalist press. By the 1930s, depictions of hillbilly culture in mass media typically involved two families engaged in an armed conflict over mountains and hills. Michael Frierson points that the image of the hillbilly so popular in media during the Great Depression, could have different meanings for the American audience of the time. On one hand, they were images from what was for most Americans a half-forgotten ...

Instead of a real doctor, he encounters a crazy cat patient posing as "Dr. Chilled-Air" (a reference to Dr. Kildare). Porky explains that he has a stomach ache brought on by overeating at his birthday party. The cat says, "Well, let's take a look" and slams an X-Ray machine into him. The X-Ray shows a birthday cake with only one piece missing and candles still lit in Porky's stomach. The cat decides to take Porky on as his own patient. The cat escorts Porky over to a bed then throws onto a bed where Porky bounces up off of it. His clot ...

Browngardt expressed that he wanted to direct it in the spirit of the classic 1940s cartoons. He then began casting, hiring Eric Bauza, and as an admirer of Jim Soper's art on Instagram, hired ...

Tortoise Wins By A Hare
''Tortoise Wins by a Hare'' is a ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon released on February 20, 1943, and directed by Bob Clampett. It stars Bugs Bunny and Cecil Turtle. It is a sequel to 1941's ''Tortoise Beats Hare'', with footage from said cartoon briefly shown at the beginning. It is also the first short to feature Robert McKimson's design of Bugs Bunny. Plot Two years after the events in ''Tortoise Beats Hare'', Bugs is watching footage of that cartoon, determined to learn how it was that Cecil managed to beat him (the cartoon seems to depict Cecil as having won fairly, rather than the truth, which was that the turtle engaged his cousins to cheat and help him win). Bugs then goes to Cecil's house disguised as an old man (a parody of Bill Thompson's "Old Timer" character from '' Fibber McGee and Molly'') to ask about the turtle's secret for winning. Cecil is not the least bit fooled by the disguise, but goes along with the gag, claiming that his streamlined shell ensures his success; he ...
