Digital Terrestrial Television In Finland
Digital terrestrial television in Finland was launched on August 21, 2001. The analogue networks continued its broadcasts alongside the digital ones until September 1, 2007, when they were shut down nationwide. Before the analogue switchoff, the terrestrial network had three multiplexes: MUX A, MUX B and MUX C. MUX A contained the channels of the public broadcaster Yleisradio and MUX B was shared between the two commercial broadcasters: MTV3 and Nelonen. MUX C contained channels of various other broadcasters. After the analogue closedown, a fourth multiplex named MUX E was launched. All Yles channels are broadcast free-to-air, so are a few commercial ones including MTV3, Nelonen, Sub, Jim, Nelonen Pro 2 and Kutonen. There are also several pay channels. Yleisradio Oy (Finnish, literally "General Radio Ltd." or "General Broadcast Ltd."; abbr. MTV Sub (formerly TVTV!, Subtv and Sub) is a Finnish TV channel owned by MTV Oy. The previous owner Alma Media sold Sub and its sister channels (MTV3, C More Max, MTV Ava Radio Nova and Sävelradio) to Swedish Bonnier and Proventus in 2005. Discovery Channel Finland is a television channel targeting Finland owned by Discovery Networks. It has programming similar to its U.S. counterpart, the Discovery Channel. It was launched on September 1, 2007, replacing a former pan-Nordic version of the Discovery Channel. On the same day, the analogue terrestrial transmitters were shut down and a new digital network containing, among other, Discovery Channel Finland was launched. SVT Europa
SVT World was an international television channel from the Swedish broadcaster Sveriges Television. The channel was available on satellite in Europe and much of Africa, Australia and Asia, terrestrially in parts of Finland and worldwide via IPTV. The broadcasts were mostly made up of the Swedish language programmes from SVT1 and SVT2. Ruutu+ Urheilu 1 is a package of Finnish sports-oriented television channels owned and operated by Nelonen. The story of the channel originally goes all the way back to the launch of digital terrestrial television on 27 August 2001, when among the first DTT channels the free-to-air sports channel Urheilukanava was launched. Its sister channel Urheilu+kanava was launched in June 2007 as part of the PlusTV package. It broadcast as an encrypted pay channel, as opposed to its parent channel, which was free-to-air. Urheilu+kanava was replaced by Nelonen Sport Pro in February 2010 and Urheilukanava became Nelonen Sport at the same time. Subtv Leffa
MTV Leffa was a Finnish television channel broadcasting movies. It was operated by MTV3 and TV4 AB and was the Finnish equivalent of TV4's movie channel TV4 Film. Dvrc and My Fresh Pony was created 14 July 2010 – 26 February 2012. The most of the programming was shared with TV4 Film. However, most movies in Swedish language was removed and replaced by other movies and the schedule is different. C More Max is a Finnish pay television channel owned and operated by MTV Oy. The channel started broadcasting in November 2006 and was originally dedicated to F1 coverage.
