Declared Monuments Of Hong Kong
Declared monuments of Hong Kong are places, structures or buildings legally declared to receive the highest level of protection. In Hong Kong, declaring a monument requires consulting the Antiquities Advisory Board, the approval of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong as well as the publication of the notice on the ''Hong Kong Government Gazette''. As of February 2013, there were 101 declared monuments, of which 57 were owned by the Government and the remaining 44 by private bodies.Report No. 60 of the Director of AuditChapter 1: "Conservation of monuments and historic buildings" 28 March 2013. Old Supreme Court Building, Hong Kong
The Court of Final Appeal Building, also known as the Old Supreme Court Building, is the home of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong. It housed the former Supreme Court from 1912 to 1983 and the Legislative Council from 1985 to 2011. It is located at 8 Jackson Road, in Central, along the eastern side of Statue Square, directly west of Chater Garden. Stanley, Hong Kong
Stanley, or Chek Chue, is a coastal town and a popular tourist attraction in Hong Kong. It is located on a peninsula on Hong Kong Island. It is east of Repulse Bay and west of Shek O, adjacent to Chung Hom Kok and Tai Tam. Administratively, it is part of the Southern District. The Chinese name "Chek Chue" refers to the original village-town but "Stanley" generally refers to all the surrounding areas of the peninsula on Hong Kong Island. Tin Hau Temple, Causeway Bay
The Tin Hau Temple in Causeway Bay is one of the Tin Hau temples in Hong Kong. It is located at 10 Tin Hau Temple Road, Causeway Bay, east of Victoria Park, in Eastern District, on Hong Kong Island. The temple has given its name to the MTR station serving it (Island line), and consequently the neighboring area of Tin Hau. History The original temple dates back to 1747 (the date of the temple bell) and was built by members of the Tai family, a family of Hakkas from Guangdong, who first settled in Kowloon. Legend has it, the family used to travel by boat to Causeway Bay to gather grass and discovered an incense burner found floating miraculously on the sea. Duddell Street
Duddell Street is a small street located near the Lan Kwai Fong district in Central, Hong Kong. Named after George and Frederick Duddell, it stretches from Ice House Street to Queen's Road Central. The street is noted for containing the city's last four gas lamps. History This short street includes, at its southern end, a flight of granite steps that were built between 1875 and 1889; these lead up to Ice House Street. The street was named in honour of brothers George and Frederick Duddell. Both were landowners in the early days of the colony, having emigrated from Macau after the 1841 annexation of Hong Kong. George was an auctioneer and ultimately a significant property owner in the area around the present Duddell Street in the mid-19th century.
