D-beat
D-beat (also known as Discore, kängpunk, Discrust, and crust-beat) is a style of hardcore punk, developed in the early 1980s by imitators of Discharge, after whom the genre is named, as well as a drum beat characteristic of this subgenre. Driller Killer (band)
Driller Killer was a Swedish extreme metal band. They were formed in 1993 in Malmö and are named after the Abel Ferrara film ''The Driller Killer''. They are signed to the French record label Osmose Productions and have released seven full-length albums, and a variety of split releases to date. Their style has been described as heavy punk, hardcore punk, crust punk and D-beat. They are also strongly influenced by the sound of Discharge. Driller Killer was one of the first bands to implement death metal sound into a crust punk formula. The popularity of the crust punk and death metal fusion cemented when Osmose Productions created the Kron-H imprint for the main purpose of signing Driller Killer, Disfear, Loud Pipes and Dellamorte. While the tenure with Kron-H did not generate major financial success it gained praise from underground critics. Discharge are an English hardcore punk band formed in 1977 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. The band is known for influencing several sub-genres of extreme music and their songs have been covered by some of the biggest names in heavy metal and other genres. The musical sub-genre of D-beat is named after Discharge and the band's distinctive drumbeat. Disfear
Disfear is a Swedish crust punk band that formed in the early 1990s and recorded sporadically over the years. After releasing the albums ''Soul Scars'' in 1995 and ''Everyday Slaughter'' in 1997, the group did not release another album until 2003 with a 12-track album, ''Misanthropic Generation'', featuring vocalist Tomas Lindberg of At the Gates and The Great Deceiver and Uffe Cederlund of Entombed. They later worked with Converge's Kurt Ballou for their album ''Live the Storm''. Bassist Henke Frykman died of cancer on 25 March 2011. Skitsystem
Skitsystem (; "Fucking System" or "Fucking Society", literally "Shit System") is a Swedish crust punk band formed in early 1994. Their sound was heavily influenced by death metal and D-beat. The band members originally came from different death metal bands, bonding over a common interest in D-beat. Initially the group was a side-project of two members of At the Gates. The band announced in December 2007 that they were on indefinite hiatus. In November 2009, Skitsystem announced plans to play two shows in Gothenburg in late February 2010, with possibly more to follow. Totalitär is a Swedish hardcore punk band formed in 1984-1985 in Hudiksvall. The band plays in the style of D-beat and hardcore punk. The original members were Poffen, Lanchy, Andreas and Lennart. Their drummer, Spennart joined the band in 1985, but quit during the summer of 1986. The band had shared members with Brainbombs among others. Wolfbrigade
Wolfbrigade (formerly Wolfpack) is a Swedish hardcore punk band formed in 1995 by Jocke Rydbjer, Frank Johansen, Erik Norberg, Marcus "M. Psykfall" Johansson and the vocalist Tomas Jonsson (known for being part of the local crust punk band Anti Cimex) their line-up has included members of Asta Kask, To What End?, Cosa Nostra, Obscure Infinity, and Harlequin. History Singer Tomas Jonsson was forced to leave the band in 1998 and was replaced by Micke. At around the same time, the band changed their name from Wolfpack to Wolfbrigade to avoid association with a Swedish neo-Nazi prison gang who shared that name. In 2002, drummer Frank left and was replaced by Dadde. The band split up in 2004 because of lack of motivation and Micke needing surgery for vocal cord problems. Ratos de Porão (Portuguese for "Basement Rats") is a Brazilian crossover thrash band from São Paulo. They were formed in 1981, toured South America, North America, Asia and Europe, and still continue to play today. The Varukers
The Varukers are a British punk rock band formed in 1979 by vocalist Anthony "Rat" Martin. They produced their most influential recordings in the early 1980s. The band play in D-beat, the musical style of Discharge. Also like Discharge, the Varukers' lyrics carry an anarchist political ideology. History Initially known as the Veruccas, the band altered the spelling of their name to the Varukers to convey more aggression. When recording in the early 1980s, they were part of a broader trend known as " UK 82", second generation punk, or UK hardcore. Doom (UK Band)
Doom are an English hardcore punk band from Birmingham whose first lineup were together from 1987 to 1990. Despite its short existence, the band is considered pivotal in the rise of crust punk, a genre of punk rock that takes influence and elements from extreme metal. They recorded for Peaceville Records and are cited as an early precursor to grindcore. Doom were also a favourite of BBC Radio DJ John Peel.
