Cyphers (magazine)
''Cyphers'' is a literary magazine publishing poetry and criticism from Ireland and abroad. It was established in 1975 by Leland Bardwell (1922-2016), Pearse Hutchinson (1927-2012), Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, and Macdara Woods (1942-2018). Of the four, all but Ní Chuilleanáin (born 1942) are deceased. Bardwell retired in 2012; Woods continued working until the final weeks of his life — even reading submissions while in his hospital bed. The Irish Arts Council has funded ''Cyphers'' entirely since its third issue (it provided half the required funding for the first two issues; six pounds of the remainder came from the widow of Patrick Kavanagh). ''Cyphers'' started publishing following ''The Dublin Magazine''s closure and as ''The Lace Curtain''s penultimate issue was published. Jeffrey Cyphers Wright
Jeffrey Cyphers Wright is an American lyric poet, writer and publisher. Beginning in 1976, Wright studied with Ted Berrigan and Alice Notley at St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery. He also studied with Allen Ginsberg at Brooklyn College and received an MFA in poetry from there. Biography Poetry and performance In the late 1970s Wright performed at PS122's avant-garde-arama. He read often at St. Mark's Poetry Project between 1979 and 1990 and served a three-year term on the Project Board of Directors. In 1996, Wright performed in two Museum of Modern Art's poetry series events curated by the late philanthropist and poetry activist Lita Hornick. In the millennial years, he hosted poetry events at the Bowery Poetry Club, La MaMa E.T.C., KGB and other East Village venues. In 2013, Wright wrote the poetry-play ''Clubhouse on East 13th Street'', which was performed at La MaMa E.T.C. and elsewhere. Charles Cyphers
Charles Cyphers (born July 28, 1939) is an American actor who is known in the horror movie community for his work in the films of John Carpenter, especially his role as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in Carpenter's 1978 movie ''Halloween''. He reprised this role in the 1981 sequel '' Halloween II'' and the 2021 sequel ''Halloween Kills''. Film work Cyphers's first feature film was the 1974 movie ''Truck Turner'', and he first worked with Carpenter in the 1976 action film '' Assault on Precinct 13'', in which he played Starker, one of the ill-fated police officers gunned down by gang members. He later appeared as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the 1978 hit horror movie ''Halloween''.
