Cross-country Skiing At The 1984 Winter Olympics
At the 1984 Winter Olympics eight cross-country skiing events – four each for men and women – were contested. The competitions were held from Thursday, 9 February, to Sunday, 19 February 1984. The women's 20 km debuted at these games. Igman
Igman ( sr-cyrl, Игман, ) is a mountain plateau in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. Geologically, Igman is part of the Dinaric Alps and formed largely of secondary and tertiary sedimentary rock, mostly Limestone. It is located southwest of Sarajevo, bordering the Bjelašnica range in the south and west, Hadžići and Ilidža in the north, and the river Željeznica in the east. Pirkko Sisko Määttä (born 7 March 1959) is a Finnish former cross-country skier who was born in Kuusamo and competed from 1982 to 1995. She won two 4 × 5 km relay bronze medals (1984, 1988) at the Winter Olympics. Määttä won a complete set of medals at the 1989 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with a gold in the 4 × 5 km relay, a silver in the 10 km classical, and a bronze in the 15 km. Anne Jahren (born 20 June 1963) is a Norwegian former cross-country skier who competed from 1982 to 1990. She won a complete set of medals at the Winter Olympics with a gold in the 4 × 5 km relay (1984), a silver in the 4 × 5 km relay (1988), and a bronze in the 20 km (1984). Brit Pettersen Tofte (born 24 November 1961) is a Norwegian former cross-country skier who competed during the 1980s. Pettersen earned one gold and two bronzes at two Winter Olympic Games. Raisa Petrovna Smetanina (russian: Раиса Петровна Сметанина; born 29 February 1952) is a Soviet and Russian cross-country skiing champion. She is the first woman in history to win ten Winter Olympic medals. Career Smetanina took part in five Olympics, representing the Soviet team four times and the Unified Team once. Květoslava Jeriová-Pecková (; alternatively also Květa Jeriová-Pecková; born Květoslava Jeriová, 10 October 1956) is a former Czech cross-country skier. She competed from 1980 to 1984. She won three medals at the Winter Olympics with a silver at the 4 × 5 km relay (1984) and two bronzes in the 5 km (1980, 1984).
