County Of Moira
The County of Moira is one of the 37 counties of Victoria which are part of the cadastral divisions of Australia, used for land titles. It is located to the east of the Goulburn River, south of the Murray River, and west of part of the Ovens River. Part of Wangaratta is in the county, on the eastern end of it. It also includes Shepparton. The Shire of Moira is in a similar area. Victoria is a state in southeastern Australia. It is the second-smallest state with a land area of , the second most populated state (after New South Wales) with a population of over 6.5 million, and the most densely populated state in Australia (28 per km2). Boomahnoomoonah, Victoria
Boomahnoomoonah is a locality in the Shire of Moira local government area. On Boomahnoomoonah Road, approximately 12 km southeast of Yarrawonga, Victoria, it was once a small town having its own school, church and post office. Comprising medium to large farms the area is predominantly agricultural, focusing on dairying as well as sheep and cattle grazing. Some viticulture is also practised. "Boomahnoomoonah" is the longest single-word place name in Victoria. Early history The Victorian Aborigines are the traditional owners of the land; in particular the Bangerang people, a family group of the Yorta Yorta people who occupied a large area along the Murray river. A former postmistress claimed that the town's name was "aboriginal for 'big water'", but other local areas also share similar meanings for their names. Benalla, Victoria
Benalla is a small city located on the Broken River gateway to the High Country north-eastern region of Victoria, Australia, about north east of the state capital Melbourne. At the the population was 10,822. It is the administrative centre for the Rural City of Benalla local government area. History Prior to the European settlement of Australia, the Benalla region was populated by the Taungurung people, an Indigenous Australian people. A 1906 history recounts that prior to white settlement "as many as 400 blacks would meet together in the vicinity of Benalla to hold a corrobboree". The area was first sighted by Europeans during an expedition of Hamilton Hume and William Hovell in 1824 and was noted as an agricultural settlement called "Swampy".
